I hope that Penn Yan recognizes what a gift Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital is for their community is something about which George Gratton feels strongly. George vacations in the Finger Lakes each summer. On a Saturday morning in July, he woke up with chills, was nauseous and was very weak. He went to the Emergency Department at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital. When he arrived, his temperature was 104 degrees. He did not leave until 14 days later, with four of the... days being spent in isolation due to COVID-19. George was a patient in the Swing Bed program. Swing Beds are utilized to provide patients with care following an acute care hospitalization, when the patient needs more time to recover from a surgery, illness or injury. When asked about his experience, he could not say enough good things about Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital. One of the most important things that stood out for him was that it can be very lonely in isolation and he was very grateful to all of the staff that would stop by and have a quick chat with him every day. This meant so much to him and helped him get through the difficult time. The nurses were attentive and perfect and followed all of the protocols for infection perfection and cleanliness. The aides and housekeepers were great and John, one of the housekeepers, went above and beyond to make sure that everything was immaculate. It was busy last week at Geneva Living Centers North and South! Residents in the South building celebrated Marge’s 102 birthday. Happy Birthday Marge! In the North building, residents held their own Autumn Masters Mini Golf Tournament.
