Artist of the Month - December 2020 Phoebe Marshall, 8th grader is December's Vocalist of the month. She is a strong singer who is a dedicated choir member. She says that she" likes that in music people can express how they feel. Just by singing, it gets people in a good mood." Congratulations, Phoebe! ACS High School... Hailey Smith, Senior, is an excellent musician and dedicates her talent to the Music Department at Adirondack. She performs on flute in Concert Band, has been selected for The Oneida All-County Band, and has had much success at NYSSMA solo festivals. She is a principal musician, setting a high standard for others to follow, and is very dependable. The Fine Arts Department is very proud of Hailey and we look forward to her further accomplishments in music. Raquel Paschke is an eighth grader in Studio Art class pursuing her high school art credit this year. Raquel’s work ethic is admirable. She continues to push herself and make improvements in her artistic skills. She is very creative and is a great asset to the art room. Raquel is particularly impressive with her consistency in art especially because of the hybrid learning model. Great job Raquel! Keep up the great work.

Congratulations to our Adirondack Quiz Bowl Team (Quiz Cats). This past weekend the Quiz Cats competed virtually in the Ithaca Fall Tournament. The team captured the Tradition Public School Championship and qualified for the Small Schools National Championship in April. In Ithaca, the team had a superb prelim round in the morning which gave the Quiz Cats the Public School title and placed them in the afternoon championship bracket. This is the first time ever that the Adiron...dack squad has qualified for the championship round. It is virtually unheard of that a team from a school graduating less than 100 students would qualify for this tournament's championship. Especially this year, in which this tournament was run virtually, all the top teams from the northeast were in attendance. In the championship bracket (consisting of 11 other schools) all schools but ACS were either large suburban schools (enrollment in excess of 1,200 students) or city center magnet schools. This bracket included three teams from Hunter College High School (Manhattan) which has produced the last three Quiz Bowl national champions. Adirondack was the only traditional small public school to make the championship round. Team members Luke Brach, Sam McPhilmy, Zach Kennison, and Braeden Pridgeon would like to thank Superintendent Ed Niznik, the Board of Education, and High School Principal Heidi Smith for allowing them to attend this tournament. The team would also like to thank Mike Adams and Katrina Fiorenza for helping get all the technology set up for this virtual tournament and Bruce and Shannon Brach for all the help during the tournament day. Congrats to the Quiz Cats!

Good morning from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office. Throughout our County, many students have returned to in class instruction, and the morning Pledge of Alle...giance has again become a regular part of their day. In the meantime, there are others that are still unable to return to School. The morning Pledge of Allegiance is a staple to daily student life, and we here at the Sheriff’s Office are proud to assist with its return to your day. For today’s pledge, we visited Mrs Paschke’s 2nd grade classroom at Boonville Elementary School of the Adirondack Central School District. I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
