For Display only.... A 350-TH transmitting tube.....

This came across the bench today..... A 1947 Chrysler push button radio. It's a Mopar 802. Missing it's vibrator, I lashed up a temporary unit complete with jumpers. Other than testing the tubes, I'll need the speaker assy because of the field coil in the speaker. That'll be here on Monday. Plenty of cleanup work to do for the time being......

From the "It'll happen every time" dept...... And why is it when some important part hits the floor, it immediately enters a nether-world? You watch it as it comes off the bench, you watch it hit the deck, poof...gone. You freeze, grab your forty million lumen military-style flashlight (great for every emergency known to man except this) and start looking. Off come the reading glasses, on go the "civvies". Moving slower than a turd in tar, you scan. Lifting up your shoes one ...at a time, (you hadn't moved them since the beginning) possibly the force of something that weighed .002 of an ounce pushed that brogan of yours up enough to nestle in a tread. Nope. Slowly standing up...(for some reason we think this helps) you're beginning to think, "Well maybe it landed on my lap". Nope. Now you're getting a little nervous and start computing in your mind how much time you'll be spending on the Net looking for someone that might have the part. Still armed with the "light-blaster", and changing back to the reading glasses, you move the chair away and assume the position. Oh, you know that pose....hands and knees planted carefully on the shop floor making you look like you're hunting for mushrooms. Ever notice that sheetrock screw you couldn't care less about always finds itself under your knee? About twenty minutes later, and with no results, you're really starting to get worried. Storage boxes are getting moved, hands are in scanning position no more than an 1/8 of an inch off the floor. You're finding things that were lost 20 jobs ago but not that part needed NOW! A sinking feeling starts to settle in.... Later that afternoon, you finally give up. You get back to the bench (how you ended up twenty feet away from it is anyone's guess) and get back to the repair at hand. The phones rings and it's another potential customer. Your hands, which are now hurting from getting poked by your scanning method earlier, grab a pen to write down information and you drop THAT....right next to the part you were looking for......

One of my collecting hobbies are "bugs" of the telegraph kind. Here's an example of a 1916 Vibroplex semi-automatic telegraph key. This old lady now works and with an experienced operator can run with the fastest.

Hi Guys..... Reading one of the posts on another page, and with all the necessary talk about bench safety and so on, we all occasionally slip up when working on a "hot" radio...usually when taking readings, alignment and so on. So my question is.... Anyone remember their FIRST belt with B+? True experiences, anecdotes, stories passed down and the like are all welcomed.... Think about it..... See more

I did a cleanout of a shop that dealt with the RCA 45 players and have close to 600 pounds of parts and finished and semi-finished players. I'd like to sell the ENTIRE lot in one shot for $500.00. All parts you would need to repair ANY 160 or 190 series player....and then some. A good selection of plastic parts and a 30 bin drawer loaded with the tiny parts that are hard to find. Motor boards, tone arms (metal and plastic, all colors various years), cabinets (wood and bakelit...e), platters (all kinds w/ or w/o dropping assy's), motors, all under the chassis operating hardware, about 40 spindle caps (red and black), complete sliding reject assy's, switch assy's, harness assy's, chassis plugs. There are approximately 40 cabinets ranging from radio/record players to the "bare bones" units. About 70% are complete....meaning the cases are not broken, just dirty. This is a very good start for someone wanting to get into the business of repairing these units. I can honestly say there are enough parts to last you a lifetime. All of what's here for sale is already packed up and ready to go. (Except for the cabinets) Very easy access for loading ( you won't need a handcart for this job...my shop window is next to my driveway) I'd estimate loading time would be no more than maybe an hour and a half....tops. Boxes and tape are here if you need them. This just in.....I've just found nearly 200 Recoton Stylii...all NOS, RCA idlers, oddball styli, belts, stuff for other phonographs as well. A Zenith cross reference guide and two copies of bench manuals for the RCA 190 series record players. (Riders) Some new rubber but not much. About 100 RCA records (used) from the 60's....mostly Western melodies. Also...about 15 Astatic cartridge bodies and a few Pfansteil P-51 cartridges. You'd need a van plus two people for everything that's there. No shipping for this project....pickup only. No "cherry picking". Serious inquiries only. Consider wisely....this is a lot of equipment. Pickup of items will be in Freeport, Long Island, NY 11520 Phone number furnished on request by IM message. Thank you.... Jim Koehler PS.... I've edited this post a few times. I'm finding more items as I dig around.

Barn Fresh! It was a good buying day at the Greater NY Vintage Wireless Association's swap meet yesterday. Here is a National SW-3 2 Volt DC regen receiver I found there. The only thing missing is the chrome cap that fits on the tuning assy. Anyone have an extra cap they can spare? ...Jim

This morning at the Greater New York Vintage Wireless Society's October meet in Seaford, LI, NY! A great time was had buy all. As always, stuff was traded between ourselves however, we had a good showing of regular people (there's a difference?) at the meet as well. The selection of vintage radio and radio related equipment was outstanding!
