Unsure if it's COVID vs something else? Maybe this will help.
Big news in COVID this morning. We're getting closer to controlling this. [Disclosure: copied and pasted on google docs from my AOA newsletter this morning - you're welcome.]
COVID-19 update: aerosol transmission As the pandemic surges out of control, let me clarify aerosol transmission. Common knowledge is that COVID is spread via d...roplet transmission. So the guidelines are social distance, wear a mask if you cannot social distance, wash your hands, and do not touch your face while out in public. Current guidelines also state it is OK to be indoors without a mask as long as you are more than six feet way from others. The problem is COVID is spread via aerosol transmission. This is significant because as reported by WHO some time back, aerosol particles stay in the air for up to eight hours instead of just falling to the ground. Aerosol particles can also travel some distance. There was a report of someone with COVID and a cough, who sat in the back of a bus, and subsequently infected people sitting fifteen feet in front of him. Another report showed how someone sitting by the air conditioning unit in a restaurant got others sick who were within the air flow of the ventilation. KEY TAKEAWAY IS THAT YOU ARE SUSCEPTIBLE ANYTIME YOU ARE INDOORS WITHOUT A MASK. While sitting in a restaurant eating your meal or reading your book in the coffee shop, it simply takes one infected person in that room not wearing a mask to get you sick because the aerosolized particles can be blown about by the overhead fan or ventilation. The longer you are exposed, and they are saying the magic number is 15 minutes, the higher likelihood of getting infected. It is also possible that you can get infected through your eyes, which is why healthcare staff are required to wear face shields when working COVID units. Protect yourselves and your loved ones. Addiction is an actual medical problem, but with the right support, it can be controlled.
To piggyback on my most recent post these are real decisions doctors will have to make if we as a community allow the second wave to be just as strong as the first. When you get sick you’ll no longer be in control.
