Beaverkill Angler Fly Shop 26.01.2021

I realize the depth of winter has engulfed the region but spring isn't that far away. The Beaverkill Angler is looking to hire people to work in the shop for the 2021 season. Details can be found at our website https://beaverkillangler.com/careers.html. We would be looking at a Mid-March start date, starting sooner is possible. Our guide staff will remain unchanged but after a good conversation with Rich Hudgens last Saturday he will not be available as much (mainly short not...ice) for this coming season. He has other obligations that will limit his availability but we will work with you as best we can if you want to fish with him this season. Thus, which is not much different than most years, we are looking for boat and wade guides. Please email the shop or call if your interested, we will not respond via social media. Most years we turn away numerous trips so its is a truly good opportunity. We hope to see you all soon. Evan

BIG BULK FLY TYING SALE! We are having big bulk fly tying sale. Its a combination of used and new material roughly grouped by type. Its all in the store and listed on our eBay store. The quantities are large but the pricing is great. Its a combination of some collections we have purchased as well as a little closeout shop inventory. We have it all in the store for sale so you can stop by, order over the phone or purchase it on eBay. We have been adding new items every week so keep checking back but there is a finite supply so don't wait!

FISHING REPORT: We have some rare conditions over the next 4-5 days, its going to be warm and the river flows are excellent. Be prepared to do some nymphing and streamer fishing and maybe we will see some BWO's. Take advantage of the good weather and get out one more the this year!

Just a quick weekend fishing report, things are shaping up to look really good. Cool nights good flows but just keep an eye on the evening water temperatures but all in all the best weekend for fishing conditions in months. Kevin, who started working at the shop this spring got some nice fish on the Willowemoc recently. Don't for get ants & beetles still work well this time of year if you want to stay on the surface.

I frequently get asked about the size of smallmouth bass on the Delaware. To give people some perspective this is a good size fish for that river, no trophy but respectable.

Sorry we haven't been more active on Facebook, strange year, but finally the really hot weather has been broken. We wanted to mention something that is probably on many people minds. How did the fish hold up under the this years summer conditions? It is still a little early to tell but we have been able to get on the Beaverkill & Willowemoc a few mornings and preliminary reports are that the fishing has been good so I am optimistic that we will have a good fall. The West ...Branch of the Delaware has been pretty good this summer, we have had the most success with fish taking small droppers behind sulphur dries. We are also back to more regular fishing reports on our website and we are going through out entire online store and making updates so please keep us in mind going forward. Our fall hours will continue to be 9-5 all week through October.

This was from a guide trip with Rich Hudgens last Monday so its pretty fresh. That is a very big Rainbow, a few more of good size were also caught that day. Great fish! We still have some open days to guide with Rich in July so give us a call.

Just a quick update, were still only offering curbside service (9-5 / 7 days a week) but we are up and running with our guide service. We do have to take some precautions. Rich had one of his best trips last Tuesday, the fish haven't seen as many anglers so their still uneducated. Due to someone travel restrictions we had a cancellation and he is open June 2-3, if you would like to book those dates you must call the shop (607) 498-5194.

Quinn who works at the Beaverkill Angler and the Catskill Fly Fishing Museum shot this fun vidoe of some dry fly fishing. He did ask me about his music selection and I told him to roll with it. We are getting some good Hendrickson hatches on all the rivers.

Rich caught these recently, some nice early season fish! The state has mandated we stay closed until May 15th, we hope that changes for the better.

I was worried we wouldn't get snow this month. In truth its short lived and will not last beyond today but pretty all the same. Rivers still a little high but its going to be warm this weekend! We will be closed for curbside order Easter Sunday.

Just wanted to say hello and give a quick update. New York State has closed all non-essential business. Thus we are restricted to helping you via our website, email or phone. In that vein we are shipping and offer curbside delivery if you want to take advantage of that. Yes we are behind and preparing for a challenging year. I am here most days just not running a consistent schedule yet. We all aware of what is going on, I am not insensitive to that, but I don't plan on ...commenting on the virus since I feel were all inundated with information already. I will update the fishing reports when possible and I will be posting on Facebook as time allows. If its important please call or email. Despite being closed I have a lot of preparation for the season (right now its just me) in the hope were allowed to open soon. We look forward to see you all in the near future. In the meantime don't neglect fishing if possible, when the water calms down its going to start a little earlier this season. Best, Evan
