While children can learn many things online, it’s important for them to experience water survival training in a controlled environment. It’s this type of experiential training that can prevent panic and save a child from drowning during a real-life water accident!

A common MISCONCEPTION exists about swimming in the fall and winter months: being in the water will increase someone’s chances of getting sick. The truth is, especially when the water is slightly chilly, swimming increases your white blood cell count so that your body further activates its health defenses. Simply put: taking year-round swim lessons helps to prepare your child’s immune system for reacting to germs and other changing conditions. British Swim School understands ...that immunity and health are critical priorities given the concerns presented by COVID-19. We’re committed to providing a clean environment that enables our critical mission of water safety for students of all ages and abilities while addressing these health and safety concerns regarding the virus. Visit BritishSwimSchool.com to find the British Swim School location nearest you, or contact us at 631-374-4533 to learn more about our year-round swim programs!

Halloween will look different this year, and that's OK! While many of the traditional Halloween activities can be high-risk for spreading viruses, here are a few alternative ways to participate in Halloween: Carving or decorating pumpkins Decorating your house, apartment, or living space Having a virtual Halloween costume contest... Having a Halloween movie night with people you live with Having a scavenger hunt-style trick-or-treat search in or around your home However Halloween may differ from past years, have fun, be safe, and have a happy Halloween!

British Swim School is a huge believer in parents staying involved in the learning process until young children are skilled enough to swim independently. But don’t worry, parents have just as much fun in our water acclimation classes as their little ones! You’ll love watching their skills and confidence grow!

Many parents will have their attention divided this summer as they work from home while trying to entertain their children. While it may seem clever to send your children to the backyard pool for a few moments of peace and quiet, swimming should never be a solo activity. At home, you’re the lifeguard! And if your child is visiting another household that has a pool, make sure you know (and agree with) the safety precautions they are taking, too.

Swim Instructors are an important ingredient in teaching a child to love and respect the water. In fact, it’s those interactions that turn any pool into a loving, learning environment. At British Swim School, our Instructors are highly trained, experienced and love teaching students new and exciting things daily. They make sure you and your child have a fantastic experience!

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Suffolk County from noon on Sunday until 8 p.m. on Monday. Combined temperatures and humidity will make it feel approximately 100 degrees during this time, putting the elderly, young, and pets at risk of heat exhaustion. I urge residents to be careful when outside and limit physical activity to early mornings or evenings, when it will be coolest. Drink plenty of water throughout the day, and check in on neighbors who may be vulnerable to heat stroke. Most of all, remember to never leave children or pets in a hot car for risk of death.
