Dear friends, The newly renovated Bull Moose Dog Run opened a month ago to widespread relief and excitement. Finally after mobilizing, organizing, petitioning and seemingly endless waiting a safe and pleasant place to socialize and exercise our dogs! However, problems with the new surface material are being reported. These problems include injuries such as cut paws, pulled muscles and eye irritation. Several dogs have been treated by veterinarians for such injuries.... Additionally, there is an orange-colored substance on the gravel that many people say is staining their dogs and causes concern What is this substance? Is it toxic? Is it necessary? Another category of complaint is that a lot of dogs (and people) simply find it difficult and uncomfortable to walk on. It has been likened to walking on the beach. Some dogs will not walk on it at all, and some people fear losing their balance. If you have visited the run and experienced any of these problems, please email us. Alternatively, let us know if you are happy with the renovation and the new surface material. Some of you may have questions or comments about other features of the run. We want to hear those as well, but we feel that the new gravel is a stand-alone issue so we are addressing it separately. As we learned when we began working to improve our run, we can't do it alone. Sometimes we need your money, sometimes we need your ideas, sometimes we need your elbow grease, and sometimes all we need is your support. So, I had a brief chat with the contractor the other day. He claims (unofficially) that they will be done in March. He further said that in the next 2 weeks, we'll see a lot happen. The new surface looks like it will be great - but I would think it will need to be refilled from time to time. Anyway, that's all good stuff!
