Academy of Fortepiano Performance International Fortepiano Salon #2 will be livestreamed on Facebook and YouTube at 2 PM EST on Saturday, February 27th. This virtual series is free, but registration is required at www.catskillmtn.org to receive the link via email prior to the Salon. Matthew Bengtson, Professor of Fortepiano at the University of Michigan, will host the second salon, following his exciting and warmly-received Mozart performance in Salon #1. Three pianists from ...Florence, Vienna, and New York will participate in this event and an open discussion will complete the program. Series presents informal free online performances and discussions with fortepiano performers--students and professionals--anywhere, hosted by AFP faculty and guest artists around the world. Due to the large interest, we had to move from the Zoom platform to StreamYard, which provides a much better quality of sound, but prevent us from seeing everyone. All participants are therefore strongly encouraged to make themselves known through comments and questions! The Salon Series will continue on a monthly basis, with subsequent events in March, April, May, June and in the fall of 2021. Each Salon will be led by invited internationally renowned guest artists from, among other countries, China and Switzerland. The International Fortepiano Salon Series presents informal online performances and discussions with fortepiano students and professionals anywhere, hosted by AFP faculty and guest artists around the world. The first International Fortepiano Salon, Meet My Piano, will be a free virtual gathering on Facebook and YouTube on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 8 pm EST. Faculty members Maria Rose and Yi-heng Yang will moderate the hour-long event, starting with brief performances on ...different fortepianos from their own homes, and also introducing the newly acquired 1826 Graf Piano at the Piano Performance Museum in Hunter, NY. Following this introduction, selected participants will perform short pieces of their choice from their homes, or talk about their pianos. All attendees can submit written questions during the Q and A portions of the Salon. The Catskill Mountain Foundation welcomes a restored 1826 Graf Fortepiano to the Piano Performance Museum, Hunter, NY. To celebrate this occasion, we are hosting a virtual lecture and concert featuring Ed Swenson, who restored the piano to its current condition, and fortepianists Maria Rose and Yi-heng Yang, founders of the Academy of Fortepiano Performance in Hunter. Ed will give a lecture about Conrad Graf's stature as a piano-maker in the 19th century, and Maria and Yi-heng will play works by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Schubert, Clara Schumann, and Vorisek on the Graf.
