Children's Memorial Garden

The Olean Area Children’s Memorial Events committee regrets to announce that this year’s 25th Annual Children’s Day and Memorial Garden Planting event planned for June 14th in Franchot Park has been canceled. Coordinators, Kathy and Beth Boser indicate due to the uncertainty of how long social distancing restrictions will last in the region due to the coronavirus pandemic, its prompted cancellation of many such events. It is their hope, once restrictions begin to be lifted, ...that volunteers will be still be able to prepare the annual garden and plant flowers in honor/memory of children for families to be able to enjoy this area in the park throughout the summer and fall. In the meantime, plans will proceed with the hopes of resuming with the 25th Olean Area Children’s Day on Sunday, June 13, 2021. Should anyone care to be involved this year, once restrictions are lifted, or in the planning for the 25th annual event, please contact Kathy or Beth Boser.

The Children’s Garden is still in bloom, but definitely needs some TLC if any individuals, groups or organizations should have an hour or two to spare. It definitely could use some weeding and the Japanese beetles are having a feast day on the roses.

What a wonderful Children’s Day. We were very fortunate to have so many community members involved. Please stop by the garden if you’re in the area to see the wonderful job done by the children and their helpers!
