I was very fortunate to have clients that gave me great latitude in the design of this desk for the mezzanine level of their apartment in brooklyn. Ive not been back yet to take Good photographs, but one can get a feeling for the work in these snapshots, taken at about 95% completion of the project. The design criterium was 'zen'. I don't know if that's really possible, but i did my best. The idea was in part to make the evidence of the day's work disappear at day's end, so ...the wireless keyboard slips into a super shallow sliding drawer that is actually integrated into the solid wood work surface. The printer and other effects are either wireless or connected via fully concealed conduits. The drawers and doors are operated by pushing just slightly, and the invisible catches release or engage. No visible hardware. What's not shown in these photos is the etched glass 'back' of the desk, which has equally sleek lines and detail. The etched glass is translucent, and so allows light to pass through but obscures detail. The overall effect is that of floating and lightness. It's always challenging working inside someone's home for any time longer than a week or so. I was forced to move my shop to a different location part way through the construction of this work, and so the long top laid against a wall for the interim. It was so long and unwieldy that we had to crate it and then hoist it up through the third floor window. I'll post a picture of that soon, when i find it.
