Happy Halloween to our human and canine friends! We love celebrating Halloween, but we know it’s important to keep our pets safe and happy while enjoying the day. Check out a few of these helpful tips to help keep our furry family members safe. Have a SPOOKtacular Day!
In recognition of Pit Bull Awareness Day, here are some thoughtful words from one of our wonderful volunteers, Tara So what is a pit bull? A pit bull is exuberant, affectionate, loyal, block-headed, athletic, ridiculous, occasionally stubborn, challenging, rewarding, and loved. A pit bull is an American, and like most Americans these dogs are a jumble of DNA and contradictions, which is, naturally, what pit bull lovers love most about their dogs. -Ken Foster I’m A Good... Dog This is just one of the amazing pit bulls I have met over the years of volunteering. The idea that Lindsey was a pit mix and therefore could and would be discriminated against (I was the third applicant for her and all three before me fell through due to BSL with landlords/home owners insurance) made me want to get involved with advocating for the breed. I joined @cusepitcrew and started volunteering at the local shelters @cnyspca @wanderersrest @ @bandrbunkhouse and Dewitt Animal Hospital and have met hundreds of loving, amazing, smart, and resilient dogs, many of them being pit bull and pit mixes. Every week there is another dog that I need. Pit bulls are the true underdog which is why I fight so hard to break stereotypes and advocate for them, because if we don’t, who will? #nationalpitbullawarenessday #bethevoice #endbsl #adoptdontshop P.S. This gorgeous pup, Pearl, has since been adopted
It’ll be raining on and off today, so head indoors (socially distanced with masks) to this HUGE garage sale to benefit our friends at Animal Alliance of Greater Syracuse. Check out a preview of their event below! Event is TODAY (Saturday 10/24).
It was nine years ago we worked with our city and county officials to proclaim October 22nd Pit Bull Awareness Day here in Syracuse and Onondaga County. We absolutely love these All-American dogs and feel like they deserve their own special day! Every day, countless pit bulls are still being euthanized in US shelters. We can ALL help lower that number by adopting, fostering, volunteering, donating or sharing adoptable dogs. Check out some local pups for adoption at B & R B...unkhouse Adoptables, Friends of Second Chance Canine Adoption Shelter and Fetch A Friend Rescue and be sure to share their adorable pups for adoption! Happy Pit Bull Awareness Day, fellow Central NY’ers! We know you all love pitties too, so go ahead and drop a pic of your pup in the comment below!
In honor of our favorite month, let’s show everyone how awesome pitties really are! Help spread positivity around pit bulls to your friends and family during National Pit Bull Awareness Month
Happy DOGiversary to the awesome crew at Friends of Second Chance Canine Adoption Shelter! This amazing program right here in central NY has saved hundreds of dogs as well as worked with over 150 inmates through their jail-shelter dog program. Their work is invaluable to the community! Please join them for this fun virtual fundraiser. If you haven’t given them a like yet, go over and check out their page to see adorable adoptable pups!
Why does this not surprise us? We’re so happy that the little boy was reunited with his family.
What do all of these dogs have in common? Well, other than being up for adoption with our friends at Fetch A Friend Rescue, they’re all black or dark colored dogs. Did you know black dogs, and more specifically, black pitties are the last to be adopted and the first to be euthanized in shelters? It’s a phenomenon known in shelters as Black Dog Syndrome. In celebration of National Black Dog Day, please consider adopting one of these handsome dogs or consider adopting a blac...k dog (or cat!) in the future. We have to be honest, we don’t get it at all. Look at these gorgeous adoptables! Boy, they are cute!!
The truth about our pit bulls.
Awesome work, Officer Neal and Drago!
Our friends at Fetch A Friend in Seneca Falls need your help finding a home for Augie! They kindly pulled him from the crowded Syracuse city shelter, but even with all the attention he’s getting in their rescue, he hates being in his kennel so much, & his mental health is deteriorating. Please share, share, share this post, & help Ferch A Friend find s family for sweet Augie! Here is what they have to say about this handsome guy: Augie is a 1-2 year old male Bull Terrier wh...o is in urgent need of his forever home. Augie was transferred to us from Syracuse dog control where he was found as a stray. Kennel life is not for Augie and his mental state cannot handle it. No matter how many walks, outings or cuddle sessions he gets, as soon as it’s time to go back to his kennel he will spin in circles constantly and drool. He is losing weight as a result, and requiring daily baths. Augie would be happiest in a home. Our trainer works with him daily and has nothing but positive things to say. Augie is incredibly smart, loves to work, enjoys playing on the agility equipment and doing tricks, loves nothing more than being in your lap cuddling, is not a barker, and despite hating his kennel he’s great in a crate and very calm. Augie does not like cats, does well with calm non annoying larger dogs( he hates being constantly jumped on by them), and adores every human he meets. Augie is now neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and ready to head home! If you have room in your heart and home for this sweet boy please visit our website at www.fetchafriendrescue.org to submit an adoption application. See more
