Happy International Women’s Day! My goal as a woman is to: Lift each other up, celebrating each other’s accomplishments... Serve as a role model for what hard work and dedication can bring, while keeping things real (I recognize my privilege and am humbly grateful ) Mentor those around me, because I wouldn’t have gotten here without all those hands pulling me up Be an active member in my community, because you’re helpless without your neighbors Be a loyal friend, loving daughter, and badass dog mom ! Tagging some boss females I adore! What’s your favorite part about being a woman? Mine is dressing up to feel sexy (for myself!,) slumber parties with my girlfriends, swinging heavy kettlebells then doing a barre class , aunt duties, and soo much more! Tell me yours

Swipe. A lot to say here, because treating #acne is so near and dear to my heart , but I’ll start with a few key points *Treating acne is a journey This patient was . She didn’t expect overnight results. And we got here in just two months! *Treating acne is effective with a multi-modality approach. Nothing against those subscription Doc-in-a-Box websites, but in order to have results, you need topical medications, sometimes oral medication...s, AND in-office treatments *And in order to have results, an individualized treatment plan will serve you best. Acne treatment is not a one size fits all. You may need a different approach than your BFF *Skincare is a lifestyle Small changes make a BIG difference. Creating a regimen that works for is key Acne is not harmful to your physical healthbut is a huge part of your mental health. I love the ear-to-ear smiles at follow up visits #dermatology #lovewhatyoudo @ Flatiron Family Medical See more

As a South Asian female, I understand the highs and lows of having wonderfully melanated skin. On the one hand, we were born with a beautiful tan On the other, our skin is more prone to hyperpigmentationwhether that be from scaring (Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation) or conditions like Melasma Here’s a quick Do’s and Don’ts list for us South Asian men and women ... *Wear SPF with Zinc or titanium. Mineral sunscreen is more effective. If you don’t like the white residue, try @hydropeptide Solar Defense or @skinceuticals Physical Defense *A consistent skincare regimen with certain active ingredients like retinoids, lactic acid, arbutnin, kojic acid will be your workhorse. See a dermatologist for a curated regimen *Hydroquinone is a safe (if you’re not pregnant) bleaching agent when used at percentages below 12%, and with intermittent brakes *Tranexamic acid is so biochemically cool. See a BCD to see if it’s right for you *DONT scrub your face with beads. Physical irritation on South Asian skin can make pigmentation worse! *Overseas I see very high strength topical steroids marketed as brightening creams. These are so bad for your skin! *Not as prevalent in the US, but becoming more popular overseas, IV glutathione is being used for skin bleaching. There is NOT enough evidence for this and have been reported *I love me a DIY yogurt+turmeric face mask as much as the next Desi girl, but even at home ingredients can be harmful if they’re causing irritation! (I once had a patient develop a terrible rash that took months to clearfrom a potato skin mask!) The eye cream I’m using right now Skincare does not have to be expensive Sometimes half of what you’re paying is going towards the packaging! ... Companies like @cerave @larocheposay @skinmedicinals put money into R&D, and cut middlemen, to give you affordable, science-backed products This eye cream is $15.99 @ultabeauty It has #ceramides and #hyluronicacid to hydrate the delicate undereye skin Like designer clothing, it’s fun and luxurious to have a few nice pieces. And sometimes, quality cannot be replicated. But, I love @zara like any other girl It’s the same with skincare. Some products are worth splurging on (I’m obsessed with @skinceuticals Triple Lipid Restore) yet I’ve been using @neutrogena ‘s 7$ facewash since grade 12 What are some products you like splurging on?? #dermatology #skincare #skincareproducts #treatyoself #basics #eyecream #skincareregimen#dermatologistrecommended#dermatologist #skinhacks @ New York, New York

I love what I do because I build relationships with people. They trust me with their vulnerabilities, even insecurities, and I cherish that trust. Often they’ll start with, I don’t mean to be vain... and I’ll remind them, this is a judgement free zone, where you’re allowed to be Or they’ll have a concern in a private area, and I reassure them that skin is part of my job description, head to toe. ... The fact that I can create an open space, where they feel safe and comfortable in their own skinbrings me happiness. Beyond treating skin, so often patients become friends #dermatology #lovewhatyoudo #humanconnection#humanexperience#wellness#womeninmedicine#skincare See more

Step 2 : Toner We’ve cleansed our skin, morning and night. (More often if you’re a gym ratsee earlier post!) Now it’s time to ... tone? Or not to tone? That’s been the million dollar question amongst skincare enthusiasts (along with many other million $ questions we will answer)... The answer lies in history. Historically, toners were used to balance the pH level of our skin. Cleansers were harsh and made our skin too basicand toners were necessary to bring our skin back to a happy place of 5.7 However, with the advent of more sophisticated cleansers, gentle soaps most derms recommend do not cause a shift in your skin’s pH levels, therefore making toners unnecessary. I’m talking witch hazel, rose water , cucumber mists They are soothing, and you can use them if you want (I love the Rose Water by @heritagestorenaturals found @ultabeauty or @wholefoods) But they are not anything for your skin. UNLESS You use a toner with active ingredients. Glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic, reservatrol, Vitamin C toners with these ingredients WILL do something for your skin. AHAs are amazing exfoliant so, however can be irritating for some. I love recommending an AHA in the form of a toner for my sensitive skin patients. Or my patients who find residue on their skin even after cleansinga good swipe with @glytoneusa toner on a cotton pad will ensure a clean canvas for your serums to absorb more efficiently. (Spoiler alert for Step 3!) Some of my fave toners. Rolling into the first Monday of the New Year! Every new year begins with #motivation, as we’re pumped with our resolutions and goals. But as the weeks and months go by, how do you keep the steam going? ... I’ve learned to not set resolutions, but intentions for my year. These intentions are in different categories like professional, personal (self care) and relationships. To fulfill these intentions, I set weekly goals, monthly goals, and yearly goals. I write them down in a planner (I’ve always been a pen&paper kind of person ) and make sure to look at it every Sunday afternoon. During the week, since I always have my phone on me, I use the app TeuxDeux. I’ve tried many apps, and I like this one because it carries over any unfinished tasks/goals automatically to the next day. And that’s my last point for this Monday. One way of doing things might have worked before, but may not serve you now. It’s okay to try different things, and see what works. What new things/habits are you rolling out this year?! I’m launching my website, to be announced soon #happynewyear#bye2020#newbeginnings#motivation#mondaymotivation#bicyclesarethebest#ilovebiking#beachcruisers#nyc#nychustle#ambition#hustlementality#mambamentality#wellness#holistichealth#skinhealth See more

Turned that frown upside down The depressor anguli oris is a muscle that attaches at the corners of the mouth. It is responsible for depressing or turning the mouth down, allowing for a frown. In some, this muscle can be overactive, causing a downturned mouth at restAKA the infamous RBF In the words of my patient, who is the SWEETEST , she was tired of her #rbf, and wanted a little more shape to her lips to match her beautifully high cheekbones. ...
