Veteran's Day is coming up, so we'd like to salute the WWII veterans who live with us. John Trzaskos served in the Army National Guard from 1942 to 1945. He landed in the 2nd wave at Normandy to help man the Browning Automatic Rifle. Days after landing, John was taken prisoner by the German Army for 13 months. To avoid being rescued by the Russian Army, John and 2 others escaped towards the U.S. Army was to turn themselves in, and he was sent home shortly after.

We're saluting our residents who served in WWII for Veteran's Day! Mabel Harrison joined the Women's Army Air Corp in 1942 after her brother joined the Army. She states, "It was a completely different world down there, but fun and interesting being with the girls and learning new skills. My brother was in the service and I thought, if he can do it, so can I!" After completing her service, Mabel moved back to New York and continued working for General Electric.

In the days leading up to Veteran's Day, we're thanking our residents who served in WWII. Arnold Schultz was a seaman First class aboard the USS Moberly in the Coast guard from 1942-1946. While aboard, Arnold was involved in the last active engagement the U.S. Navy had with German submarines in the North Atlantic during the war. After the war he began working for GE, crediting his time in the service for giving him the experience and skills necessary to be an instrument librarian.
