Ellis Medicine is proud to have been selected by Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Department of Health as a regional hub to administer COVID-19 vaccinations to hospital employees. As a regional hub, Ellis began a program to vaccinate staff of hospitals in the greater Capital Region this past Wednesday; the first hospital employees to receive the vaccine are staff at high-risk of exposure, such as those working in COVID-designated units, Intensive Care Units and Emergency Departments. All of us at Ellis are honored to play an important role in this critical public health initiative, and we thank our dedicated staff for their extraordinary efforts as they developed this program to meet the needs of our region.

Ellis is hiring! PCT/CNA positions available - Full Time, Part Time and Per Diem! -High school graduate or equivalent required. Some healthcare terminology and coursework preferred and 1. Completion of an approved nursing assistant program such as; Certified Nursing Assistant, EMT, Medical Assistant, Home Health Aide or related programs - OR- 2. Two (2) years of experience as a direct care provider in a related clinical setting may be substituted. -OR-... 3. Current enrollment in a nursing program with the completion of Nursing Fundamentals in lieu of patient care experience. Under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse, the Patient Care Technician (PCT) and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and assists the professional staff by performing a variety of paraprofessional and technical functions which contribute to the safety, care and comfort of patients and their families. Provides direct and indirect patient care, technical skills and procedures, performs routine secretarial and clerical duties and participates in maintaining the environment.

This past Friday, our employees lit up Ellis's hallways in pink to show our support for breast cancer awareness. Breast care is something we celebrate and focus on throughout the entire year! Our team of employees at the breast care centers provide high-quality imaging and patient care services, including screening mammograms, diagnostic mammograms, biopsies, and other breast procedures. We are committed to the importance of early detection and prevention of breast cancer and other breast-related diseases.

Today is Global Hand Washing Day, which means more this year than ever! Hand washing is an essential part of keeping food safe, preventing diseases, and helping children grow strong. Here are a few ways you can make a difference today and every day: Wash your hands with soap at critical times, make hand-washing part of your family meals, and be sure to establish places to wash your hands in the household, in your community, in schools, workplaces, and in health facilities. #healthyhands #handwashing

Physician. Family man. Mentor. Friend. Colleague. These are only a few roles Dr. Fouad Sattar played as he lived his life as an inspirational leader in this community, bringing joy to countless colleagues, mothers and families as an OB/GYN for more than 40 years. The Ellis family lost one of our dear friends last week with the passing of Dr. Sattar. When trying to find where to begin when honoring a man of such great accomplishment and whose contributions and impact on the c...ommunity transcends far beyond the classroom or labor and delivery floor, it can feel overwhelming, as if there are no words to amplify the true goodness of what he embodied. From holding the hands of women and new parents, welcoming their greatest joys into this world to inspiring and sharing his wealth of knowledge with new physicians, he has left an immense imprint on all the hearts of those whose lives he has been a part of. His gentle kindness brightened the day of everyone he encountered, and that will be sorely missed. While he has been quoted thanking those around him for all they have brought to his life, it feels only right that we say farewell with an abundance of thanks and gratitude for all the life lessons, wonderful memories, and joy he has brought to us all. So, thank you, Dr. Sattar. May we all follow your lead and live our lives with passion, a drive to help others, unending compassion, and smiling even in the hardest of times. Our lives are all that much richer for having had you a part of it.
