It is with profound sadness that we announce our operating season in 2020 is going to be canceled. While we would love to be cruising the historic Erie Canal with you, the challenges with operating on a shortened season and with social distancing would prove too challenging for us this year.... Please know that we intend to be back in 2021 so please plan to join us next year!
Erie Canal Cruises Cares About You! These are clearly unique and challenging times affecting our families, our businesses and our communities. Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone impacted by this virus. We are truly inspired by the selfless healthcare workers tirelessly working to care for those in need, and we are moved by the many folks going to work every single day providing our essential services. May their strength help us all to continue to rise above these di...fficult times and look forward to brighter days to come. At the forefront of our thoughts is health and safety of our team members and our passengers. As we look toward the 2020 operating season, there are many questions that we will need answers to before we can develop a plan to operate. Our hope is that at some point we can safely offer our cruises in a modified fashion. As expected, we will follow the direction of the local, state and national officials with regard to our business operations. We will provide updates as we have them.
Nice story from Lock 20 in Marcy. Shout-out to the great folks at the NYS Canal Corporation for saving the day!
Happy Birthday to Dewitt Clinton, the man behind "Clinton's Ditch" and the father of the Erie Canal! Still looking good after all these years!
Looking forward to May already...
It was a long, cold winter back in 1936 for these folks...
A special day in history for the Erie Canal - the "Wedding of the Waters" happened on this day in 1825. It was the wedding of Lake Erie water and the Atlantic Ocean, celebrating the official opening of the Erie Canal!
Can you imagine the excitement of that first wave of water that filled the newly constructed Erie Canal between Rome and Utica 200 years ago?
One guess who's birthday is today? Although he stopped having official birthdays long ago, he does enjoy some celebration...Happy Birthday Captain Jerry!
Another season is in the books... Our last sight seeing cruise of the 2019 season departed yesterday, marking the end of our operating season for the year. We would like to thank all the wonderful people who visited us this year to experience the amazing Erie Canal! As we begin to wind down our operations and reposition our vessels to Rome (LD2) and Albany (LD3), we would also like to thank the fantastic people at the NYS Canal Corporation for all their support this year! Spring of 2020 will be here before you know it, and we are looking forward to seeing some familiar faces back on board next season!
It was a great day to celebrate the Erie Canal's history! We commemorated the very first cruise from Rome to Utica on the Erie Canal in October 1819. That was the first completed section of the original Erie Canal, and the vessel "Chief Engineer" set sail on the historic cruise. The packet boat was pulled by 1 horse and the 16 mile trip took approximately 4 hours. Fast forward 200 years and we are still navigating on the Erie Canal! A very special thanks to our friends at the NYS Canal Corporation for hosting this fabulous event and gathering all the nice folks that cruised with us.
A great clip from our friends at Spectrum News Central New York/S. Tier capturing the celebration yesterday marking the anniversary of the first cruise on the Erie Canal 200 years ago!
We had a great cruise yesterday with Erie Canal VIPs! We hosted our friends from the NYS Canal Corporation for a truly historic cruise!
Great news for the efforts to close some gaps locally on the Erie Canalway Trail!
We had a beautiful boat pass by our home docks yesterday. It was a Chanticleer, 107 foot Burger. This vessel was once owned by actress/singer Frances Langford!
