- The greatest publicist, God, humbles me. When I launched FOLKUS in November 2020, a marketing team, budget and related resources were non-existence. FOLKUS had a small band of followers roughly 100. My plan was to birth FOLKUS as a platform to expand how the world celebrates, copes, and connects through the prism of BLACKNESS. Much like a book, I sought to use paper as a medium to tell a story, to transfer knowledge, to enchant and amuse. The designs and storylines fo...r the debut collection had many muses, including Miss Tyson. Miss Tyson’s influence would manifest in the Binta and Harlem World designs, yet no one knew this information. Divine providence would connect FOLKUS and Miss Tyson and grant us the opportunity to lovingly adorn Just as I Am: A Memoir in the Khadijah/Zakiyah wrapping paper with a Ghanaian brass pendant and gold cord. Khadijah is a tribute design to women who serve as the vanguard as epitomized by Miss Tyson. We are thankful for Miss Tyson, her work and for this opportunity to honor, cherish and celebrate a legend.
