On Wednesday October 21st the U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that the State Department will designate the U.S. operations of six more China-based media companies as foreign missions, a decision he said was aimed at ''pushing back'' against communist propaganda from China. FPA President Ian Williams makes this statement in response to Secretary Pompeo: Without making any claims for the independence of the PRC media, the FPA warns Secretary Pompeo of the poet’s w...ish to see ourselves as others see us. He is opening the door for restrictions on other state affiliated media, from the VOA to BBC or Canadian Broadcasting, not to mention partisan proprietorial controlled media whose objectivity is often questioned. The FPA deplores such restrictions on media outlets. The odious comparison puts the US in danger of making Beijing look like a champion of the free press! See more

Tomorrow at 5pm ET The Foreign Press Association will host a press conference with Director John Brennan. Event to take place on Zoom. Register in advance for the link. https://forms.gle/GfBV82PvSnh7CNDT7... Foreign Press Association will hold a Press Conference with John Brennan, Former Director of the CIA. Director Brennan, offers a rare, behind the scenes look at crucial moments in recent US history, including the first Gulf war, the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Arab Spring, the hunt for Bin Laden, the CIA’s controversial use of enhanced interrogation techniques, the Obama drone policy, and when he first discovered Russia's aggressive efforts to undermine U.S. national security and interference in the 2016 election. In a briefing for the Foreign Press Association Director Brennan considers the agency’s role in the U.S. government, admitting the insularity, arrogance, and myopia that have, at times, undermined its reputation in the eyes of the American people and of members of Congress. For many around the world the CIA is the boogeyman, toppler of governments or provider of backup to 007! Director Brennan paints a more rounded portrait, warts and all. When I first read about Khashoggi’s murder and dismemberment at the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, in 2018, I knew immediately that MBS (Prince Muhammad Bin Salman) bore responsibility. As long as Mr. Trump continues to trample the tenets of our democracy, lie to the American people, denigrate the office of the presidency, endanger our national security, and sully our reputation around the world, I will not relent in my criticism of him. Undaunted and undented by White House attacks, the FPA welcomes former CIA director John Brennan to talk about his time with the Agency, serving six Presidents (his first briefing for President Trump was his last.

In my youth I envisaged somewhat different conversations with the CIA. With me on the wrong end of the bright light!
