If you find a stray or lost dog, please contact the Dog Control Officer for your township. If you don't know who your DCO is, contact your local police dept, an...d they can direct you based on your township. Often times a lost dog has been reported and the DCO may already know who it belongs to, and it then can be reunited with its owners. If the animal is in your yard, and friendly, then one could secure it till the DCO arrives. There is nothing wrong with being a good citizen and helping an animal, but just because one finds a dog does not mean that it is not owned by another. Dogs get loose all the time, so if you truly love your dog, please collar and tag your dog, and a microchip. Even write your phone number inside the dogs collar.
