Today we got out of the shop to fix up this log loader bucket. The part that the cylinder attaches to broke out. It was noticed that this had been cracked for some time and today of finally decided to break off. We got the piece fit back into place welded it up. On the inside of this tong there was a plate that was added at some point which had also cracked and broke at the welds. We were able to reuse this plate after cleaning up the old welds and better fitting it onto the tong. This fix is just a temporary one to get them through until the bucket can be taken apart and brought to the shop where we will replace all of the fatigued steel. #alwaysbuilding #jonesmachineshopllc

Today we got out of the shop to fix a set of drags for one of our local snowmobile clubs. While it was in use yesterday one of the ears on the front of the drags broke. Luckily they weren’t to far from the groomer barn and got it back without any further issues. We went up right away and checked it all over and took measurements to make two new ears. This particular groomer wasn’t scheduled to go back out until this afternoon which is why we opted to fix it this morning instead of working on it last night. We are happy with how this quick repair job went and now it can head back out onto the trails! #alwaysbuilding #jonesmachineshopllc #valleysnowtravelers

This week we finished up another equipment trailer project. This trailer came to us for new fenders and while it was here we discovered that the suspension linkage and equalizers were in desperate need of replacement. So while it was here we replaced the old bent up and thin fenders with some heavier duty ones and replaced the worn and broken suspension parts. Now this trailer will be all set to start hauling equipment around! #alwaysbuilding #jonesmachineshopllc

This week we got to help out one of the local saw mills with a break down. Pictured is their log debarking set up. The green pieces is what kicks the log out of the rolls and onto a conveyor. These kickers are all welded to a shaft which then connects to an air cylinder. The old kicker shaft broke where the air cylinder connects. They had this new shaft and kickers already on hand ready to go for when the old one broke. The only problem is to swap them out the kicker pieces t...hemselves hit on the framework around them. So we came up with the best option to install the new kicker shaft. Which was to cut off the kickers in a specific spot which would allow the new shaft to be slid in under all the framework. Once in place we got to work matching up and welding the kickers back together. Both sides were beveled and welded. The side opposite of the rollers we added 1/2 thick reinforcement plates across the joint. We would of added plates to both sides but the kickers are close enough to the rollers that there wasn’t enough room to do so. We welded everything up with both dual shield and 7018 depending on the position. We were very happy with how it all turned out and happy to be apart of this install. #alwaysbuilding #jonesmachineshopllc See more

This morning we got out and installed these galvanized grates on a concrete box culvert. The top grates are 1 bar grating cut to length to fit the top of the culvert. The end grate is a grate that we built custom to fit the culvert. These grates will help to keep large debris and adventurous children out of the pipe on the back end of box culvert. #alwaysbuilding #jonesmachineshopllc

Some more trailer work in the shop today. The customer brought this trailer to us after noticing some unwanted movement in the suspension. After getting it in the shop and looking it over we determined it was just worn out linkage in the suspension. So we ordered and installed new equalizers, bushings for the end of the springs, new linkage arms and new bolts and nuts. A pretty easy and straightforward job but definitely an important one. #alwaysbuulding #jonesmachineshopllc

Check out this trailer project that we finished up this week. The customer bought this trailer for a little bit of nothing knowing that I was going to need work to get it ready to haul equipment. At some point in this trailers life someone made an effort to reinforce a couple areas on the frame where the trailer had started to crack. We cut all of that off and started fresh. We ground out and welded up the cracks and then wrapped the outside of the frame with some 3/8 plate. We then added a gusset piece on the inside which was also 3/8. We added a piece of 1/4 plate onto the bottom of the frame rail to help reinforce that area. We also added a piece of channel on the backside of the front crossmember to help straighten that. #alwaysbuilding #jonesmachineshopllc

Last week we finally finished up our first bridge project! We designed and built this bridge for a private hunting club. This new bridge is 16’ wide x 50’ long. The original bridge that was built using two flat deck trailer frames was getting in rough shape and needed to be replaced. The new bridge is made up of 4 - w24 x 104 beams with 12 structural channel crossmembers. We also added a W6 x 12 beam in the center just to help support the center of the bridge deck. The deck ...is 4 thick rough cut tamarack. We added a 12 tail rail made with 2 1/2 square tubing that runs along both sides to help keep someone from driving off. The deck is not attached directly to the bridge but it is held in place by two different ways. The first is plates that are welded to the end of the beams that stick up 3 above the top of the beams. These plates allow the new bridge approaches to be piled up against the bridge and by having them stick up beyond the top of the beams this holds the deck from shifting of the ends of the beams. The second way the deck is held in place is the 4 x 3 x 1/4 angle iron that runs down both sides of the bridge deck. The angle is bolted to a tab that is welded onto the railing uprights. This angle iron keeps the deck from shifting left and right and also up and down. Now with this bridge being completed this hunting club can get back to accessing their land for hunting and fishing and land management. #alwaysbuilding #jonesmachineshopllc See more

Got out of the shop this week and put the new service truck to work! We fit up and welded some 24 casings for the construction company that is redoing all the water, sewer, and stone pipes in town. We put four 20’ sections and one 14’ section together to make one 94’ length of casing. This casing will be going in under the old railroad tracks and it will house the new storm drain pipe in that area. This summer we also did two sections of 60 casings for the same customer fo...r the same reasons. While on that job we were super busy getting everything fit up and welded that we forgot to take any pictures of those. We welded everything up with the ESAB EM 235ic using dual shield wire. The new truck has been great so far and we are slowly getting tools added to it and figuring out exactly how we want it set up. #alwaysbuilding #jonesmachineshopllc See more

We are excited to announce the purchase of our new service truck! As we continue to grow we felt it was time to be better equipped to handle our expanding on site work load. This truck will help us better serve our customers needs and help us be more efficient with our time gearing up to go to service calls and with time spent on site. Now begins the process of getting the truck tooled up and organized. #alwaysbuilding #jonesmachineshopllc #bedrocktruckbeds #ramtrucks #empirecdjr

Today we finished up an awesome project at the local kraft plant! We were hired to complete two different catwalk jobs. The first one was to replace some existing catwalk around some new cooling towers and add additional structural bracing under the catwalk. Once that was complete we added in the new galvanized bar grating. The second project was finishing an unfinished catwalk platform. We installed new bar grating, fabricated the safety railing and fabricated the ladder safety cage. The location of this job on the roof and the tight spaces made these jobs a bit challenging but in the end it turn out great! Also a big thanks to @cory_mcgovern of McGovern’s Welding for helping out on this project! #alwaysbuilding #jonesmachineshopllc

Yeaterday we finished up this dump box hinge rebuild. The original hinges were seized up and when the customer tried to use the dump bed it broke one of the hinges off. So we cut all the old hinges off and fabricated new ones. This project went fairly easy because we could just copy the original hinges. Hopefully the grease worms stay out of these new hinges! #alwaysbuilding #jonesmachineshopllc

This morning we were back out at the scrap yard to do some build up on this steel sheer. The tip of the sheer where the replaceable sheer bar attaches broke off. So we build it up with regular hard wire and then covered it all with two layers of hard surfacing wire. We also hard surfaced some other worn areas. #alwaysbuilding #jonesmachineshopllc

Yesterday we finished up this tailgate repair on this dump trailer. Then pins were set up and in efforts to get the door open with an excavator the pins broke. The customer provided the new hinges from the manufacturer of the trailer. We cut the old hinges off of the gate and replaced them but on the trailer itself we just cut off the bosses and left the brackets as they were still in decent shape. It helped save us time on the project and ultimately saved the customer money. The gate went back together fairly easily which was a good thing to see after getting all the pieces welded in place. #alwaysbuilding #jonesmachineshopllc

This morning we finished up and delivered the other project that we were doing for the new wind tower project! These push braces will be mounted permanently into the top of the towers as a support brace. 5 of the towers that are going up have an issue with the fiberglass shell of the cell flexing and breaking. These braces will mount solid on one end to a structure piece and the adjustable end will go out and bolt to the fiberglass. The solid end of the brace is off set so it... will seat evenly onto the support inside of the tower cell. The adjustable end is only 1/8 plate with 1/2 threaded rod welded on that threads into a 3 long 1/2 coupler nut welded into the end of the 1 square tubing. In the pictures there are only 4 braces but we built a total of 5. The 1st brace we built was used as a test fit for the rest of the braces and was installed into the tower after the test fit. These braces will be painted by the wind tower crew that installs them. #alwaysbuilding #jonesmachineshopllc #siemensgamesa @ Jones' Machine Shop LLC See more

Check out this custom work platform that we just finished up for the new wind farm! We were contacted to build a custom work platform to fit inside the nose cone for a few new wind towers. They are changing out some components inside the nose cone before they install it onto the tower. The way the nose cone sits there isn’t a good flat surface for the workers to stand while accessing some of the parts that they are changing out. So we designed and fabricated two aluminum plat...forms to fit inside the nose cone. The legs have adjustable feet on them to allow the workers to level the platform if needed. The legs in the platforms also fold up for transport. Now that they they have these platforms they plan on sending them to other sites. Which for us to be able to design and build something for a company like Siemens Gamesa is a huge honor! #alwaysbuilding #jonesmachineshopllc #siemensgamesarenewableenergy See more

Check out this mini excavator blade that we finished up this morning! This machine was brought to us with the blade almost ready to break off. After we took the blade off of the machine we decided to cut the lift arms off and start with all new material. We added new reinforcement plates and gussets to strengthen the arms. We added an extra 2 square tubing gusset on the outsides of the arms for added strength. We also installed a new 3/8 AR plate cutting edge on the blade. #alwaysbuilding #jonesmachineshopllc @ Jones' Machine Shop LLC

Check out this dump trailer rebuild that we just finished up! The customer came to us looking for a new and heavier built dump box to replace the original one. The original dump box was getting wore out and starting to rust through which ultimately caused it to bend while dumping a load of sand. With the trailer frame still in good shape it was well worth replacing the dump box instead of buying a whole new trailer. So for our dump box we built an actual frame for the sides that are welded directly to the cross members. Then we covered the floor with 3/16 plate and used 1/8 on the sides. We also beefed up the design of the bracket for the lift cylinder and the pivot points in the back. Now this trailer will head off to be sand blasted and painted. #alwaysbuilding #jonesmachineshopllc @ Jones' Machine Shop LLC

This morning we finished up this custom extra deep, deep well socket for a company that is constructing the newest wind farm in the area. They brought us a 2 1/4 impact socket and wanted it cut it in half and add 23 to it. This socket will be used on an impact but only to run the nuts down the long anchor studs on the tower foundations. Once they get the nut spun down the anchor they will take this socket off and won’t be using it to tighten the nuts down. With the socket we machined the outside down to match the same outside diameter of the mechanical tubing that we used to lengthen this socket. Doing this help line all the pieces up when we welded them together. #alwaysbuilding #jonesmachineshopllc @ Jones' Machine Shop LLC
