Klinger Educational Products is looking forward to seeing you next week at the Alpha Workshops. We wanted to clarify that we are bringing 2 exciting setups and ...running 2 different workshops for X-ray and Photonics. For the X-ray workshop, the Physicist presenting will create Laue diagrams of NaCl and LiF monocrystals. X-rays are an essential tool to determine the structure of these crystals. Once the X-ray apparatus creates a "white" spectrum of X-rays, then the "multicolored" diffraction spots on an X-ray image sensor behind the crystal and their intensities can be used to determine the crystal structure and the dimensions of the unit cell through application of the Laue conditions. The X-ray image sensors allows capturing the Laue pattern in one minute (much faster than conventional film) and the digital evaluation through the software, makes for a spectacular display to determination of the diffraction angles on the computer. For the Photonics workshop, the Physicist presenting will demonstrate how a pumped diode laser is built up from individual components in an open arrangement. Workshop participants will be able to see several other applications with the YAG laser such as optical pumping and with a KTP crystal frequency doubling. Abstract Title: W36: Digital Laue Diagrams with an X-ray Apparatus Abstract: Laue diagrams from NaCl and LiF monocrystals are created using the X-ray apparatus as ""white"" X-radiation. The positions of the "multicolored" reflections on an X-ray film behind the crystal and their intensities can be used to determine the crystal structure and the lengths of the crystal axes through application of the Laue condition. Abstract Title: W56: Diode Laser Pumped Nd:YAG Frequency Doubling Abstract: YAG LASER PUMPED DIODE: First the pump diode laser is characterized. Then the process of optical pumping and the emitted spontaneous fluorescence are analyzed spectrally and temporally by modulation and changing the wavelength of the pump laser leading to the Einstein coefficients. In a third step the laser operation is initiated by adding the second cavity mirror. The laser threshold and efficiency are determined and by modulating the pump laser diode the so called spiking effect demonstrated. By changing the length of the laser cavity the stability criterion is verified. Enhancing the basic set-up of the diode pumped Nd:YAG laser by a KTP crystal module placed into the laser cavity leading to a frequency doubled green (532 nm) visible output. By adding the optional adjustable iris the transverse mode structure can be controlled for various TEM structures down to TEM00. We hope you sign up and join us for one or both of our sessions.
