Winter Reminders - Snow Removal on Sidewalks/Streets and Illegal Snow Dumping With winter now upon us, we want to remind property owners of the City of Lackawanna code regarding snow removal on/near their property. A copy of the code is available on the city website (www.lackawannany.gov) under Code Enforcement. An image is below for reference (click to enlarge). In addition, Lackawanna does not have a site for plow contractors to dump snow and it is illegal to dump snow re...moved from residential and/or commercial property on city-owned property. Violators are subject to a $2,500 illegal dumping fine. We appreciate everyone's cooperation with these matters this winter season.

A Message from Public Safety Director John Wolf Please Keep Fire Hydrants Clear During the Winter With the winter season upon us, I’m requesting the cooperation of all Lackawanna residents to keep fire hydrants located on or near their property clear from snow and debris. This will allow our firefighters easier access to the hydrant, which is essential to putting fires out more quickly and helping save lives and property. When snow is deep, firefighters may have difficult...y locating hydrants, which could be catastrophic. Based on my years serving on the Lackawanna Fire Department, I can tell you firsthand the importance of clearing hydrants during the winter season, stated Third Ward council member and retired firefighter Dean Moretti. I ask all residents to please follow the important advice of our Public Safety Director. Providing our firefighters with clear access to a hydrant allows them to quickly begin battling a fire this precious time is often the key to saving lives and property during a fire situation.’ Along with the City Council, I also ask that residents follow all parking rules (including alternate parking) and not park within 15 feet of a fire hydrant. Thank you.
