Joanne R. Marino, 78 Retired Cook, Senior Center Director, Mom, Nana Joanne R. Marino, 78, of Meiers Corners, passed away on November 22, 2020 after a brief illness. Joanne was born on Staten Island on June 9, 1942 to Ralph and Josephine (Sorokata) LaMendella. She was raised in Mariners Harbor, then West Brighton, where she attended Blessed Sacrament School. She also attended Notre Dame Academy of Staten Island and Seton Hall University, where she obtained her degree in educa...tion. After marrying, Joanne was an elementary school teacher at Saint Bartholomew Catholic School in Manchester, Connecticut. After moving back to Meiers Corners in 1968, Joanne was a homemaker while working at her father’s luncheonette (Ralph’s), along with her son, CJ. Joanne then went on to work at Cassidy Coles Senior Center in Randall Manor as assistant director, then director. Joanne recently retired from cooking at the rectories of both the Church of Saint Rita and Holy Family Church for over 20 years. The parish of the Church of Saint Rita meant a lot to Joanne. She spent much of her time there worshipping and enjoying celebrations with fellow staff members of the parish. While raising her children, Joanne’s home was the house on the block where everyone could be found. Joanne enjoyed hosting traditional holidays, taking ocean cruises, shopping, and making religious pilgrimages. Joanne enjoyed spending time with her beloved grandchildren. In addition to her son CJ (James Velten), Joanne is survived by her daughters, Lisa Ghigliotti and Kari Byrnes (Kevin). She was the adoring grandmother of Emily, Ella and Kaylee Ghigliotti, and Thomas, Aidan and Rachel Byrnes. Joanne was the former wife of Charles E. Marino. Joanne’s children would like to thank the Richmond University Medical Center staff and the St. Rita’s family for their care and support during this difficult time. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Rita’s R.C. Church at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Family and friends may visit on Friday, 11/27/2020 from 3:00 to 8:00 PM. Due to the current pandemic all guests are required to wear a mask and social distancing will be encouraged. For your safety and the safety of others the number of guests allowed in the room at one time is limited.

William T. Mannino, 67, of Meiers Corners, passed away on November 20, 2020. He was the beloved husband of Barbara Pariseau Mannino. He was the son of the late Thomas and Lena Mannino; dear brother of Michele Ballard and loving father of Thomas Mannino and Donna Lee Martuccio. He is the adored Pop of Nicholas, Hannah, Nate, Kendall and Ben and loving father-in-law of Paul Martuccio and Kiana Mannino and many nieces and nephews. Billy was born in Staten Island in 1953 and... grew up in West Brighton where he spent so much of his time with dear neighborhood lifelong friends. He was a graduate of PS 45, IS 27 and Curtis High School. He worked as an elevator mechanic for Local 1 for over 40 years, most of those years with Thyssen Krupp. Billy enjoyed playing the drums and listening to all music genres. He had a deep appreciation for music and the arts. More than anything, Billy was devoted to his wife, family and friends. He will always be remembered for his amazing pool parties, delicious bbq dinners, homemade lasagna, love of animals and beautiful vacations with friends and family. He was the epitome of unselfishness. Family and friends are invited to visit at Matthew Funeral Home, Inc. 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Monday 11/23, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family R.C. Church on Tuesday, 11/24, at 10:30 am. Due to current health conditions, visitors to the funeral home and church must wear masks, practice social distancing, and be mindful that a wait time to visit might exist due to current capacity limitations.
