Max V. Shaul State Park

Spring ephemerals are blooming at Max V. Shaul State Park! These crafty little plants spend most of their lives underground, sprouting up only for a short period in early Spring when competition for sunlight is low. By the time trees have their leaves out, many Spring ephemerals will have already flowered, spread their seeds, and done enough photosynthesizing to hold them over until next spring.

Who's ready for camping? WE ARE! The campground opens May 20th. Make your reservations now because they are filling up fast. Reservations can be made by going online to ReserveAmerica.com or by calling 1-800-456-2267. New for the 2021 camping season - same day reservations! We will not be taking walk-ins again for this season but you can now make same day reservations up until 3 PM.... We hope to see you outside!

The ice skating rink will be closed for now due to the warm weather and precipitation we had last night. However, we still have snowshoes available to rent! Snowshoes can be rented from the park office but please call ahead or message us here to make sure they are available for that day.

To celebrate the Internation Day of Women and Girls in Science we are recognizing the women in STEM who have and continue to work in our parks to make it great! Here is to all the educators, rangers, managers, and researchers for caring for our natural world!

Great news: the ice rink is scheduled to open this Saturday, 1/16/2021! Starting this weekend, the ice rink will be open Saturdays and Sundays, weather dependent. Please call the park office or message the page the day of to make sure the ice is still good for skating. A couple of reminders:... -The rink will be open all day on the weekends. -Skate rentals are FREE and will be available starting at 9 AM. All rented skates must be returned to the park office by 3:30 PM. Skates can be rented from the park office. Limited sizes available. -Please wear a mask to enter the park office and whenever you are unable to maintain a 6ft distance. -Please only enter and exit the rink by using the ramp. DO NOT step on the liner with ice skates!!!

Mine Kill State Park is offering free virtual school lessons! Check-out what we are offering below! We are still offering in-person class visits to small group...s. These lessons include a "Wildlife Talk" that dives into how local animals survive and behave, "Who's hoo" owl pellet dissection and an overview of owls in NY, and the "Lost in the Woods Workshop" that demonstrates to students what to do if they ever got lost.
