Preschool children can - and should - be encouraged to develop confidence and independence through chores as well. Setting the table, putting away the silverware from the dishwasher, sorting their clothes for the laundry, emptying small trash cans into a big one, carrying their plates to the sink, putting away their toys, and dusting (with a sock on their hand) are all great activities for preschoolers that teach them that they are capable members of the family and their efforts are valued. Our teachers have more extensive lists of appropriate chores broken down by age. If you want ideas, just ask!
