Good morning! Just wanted to provide and update for those patients between 12-15 yrs. NY State passed the administration of the COVID vaccine down to the age of 12, as of 5/12/21. Unfortunately, we will not be administering these vaccines at our office at this time. Please register your child via the NY State site or check with the pharmacy to see if they are offering the vaccine. Please remember that you cannot have any vaccine within the 2 weeks prior to or after the COVID vaccine series. Here is the link to the NY State site: https://covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov/

Dairy free? There are still ways to get calcium! We only get one chance to build strong bones and that is during childhood. As kids are growing, bones are also growing with the help of calcium. By the time we are about 25 this process is complete. There is no more growth. Bones are as dense and strong as they will ever be based on the amount of calcium consumed during childhood. Any calcium consumed after 25 helps to maintain bone calcium, but our bones are unable to absorb a...ny more. Inadequate calcium intake in childhood can increase the risk of osteoporosis and bone fractures later in life so it’s important to be mindful of your child’s intake now when it matters most. Dairy products are the most widely recognized calcium rich foods, but calcium can be found in plant based foods as well. Pair calcium with Vitamin D and daily weight bearing exercise for better absorption! So, how much calcium does my child need? 1-3 y: 700 mg/d 4-8 y: 1000 mg/d 9-13 y: 1300 mg/d 14-18 y: 1300 mg/d If you are concerned about your child’s calcium intake, give the office a call to get in touch with one of our registered dietitians #calciumintake #pediatricnutrition #strongbones #vitamind #calcium #bonehealth #pediatrics #americanacademyofpediatrics

Yogurt is a great baby and toddler food! It is filled with protein, calcium, fat and probiotics. But do you ever wonder which yogurt is best? The best yogurt for children ages 6 mos 2 yrs is one that is plain rather than flavored, made with whole milk and free from added sugars. Fat is crucial for brain development during these years, but added sugars put kids at risk for obesity, tooth decay, heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes.

Good morning! A quick reminder about the use of our Facebook page. We are utilizing this as a way to get information out to all our patients, advise of local events, as well as to provide important information via our Facebook live videos. It is a great way to message us to say Hey, I was trying to call the office, but there seems to be an issue with your phones. Those type of messages are wonderful. Being a social media platform, we can not answer medical questions about y...our child, confirm/cancel/schedule appointments, or answer billing/insurance questions. If you wish to communicate with the office in that type of platform, please utilize our new patient portal. If you are not registered for the portal, please call our office and someone will be happy to assist you in the set up! I hope everyone has a great day and stay healthy and safe on the roads today! Thank you, everyone, for being so flexible and helping to make the initial drive-thru flu clinics so smooth! If you haven't been in for your flu appointment yet, we thought we might do a demonstration for you, just make it easier to know what to expect when you arrive!... We will be holding another Facebook Live tomorrow around 12:30pm for about 30 mins. We'll also discuss updates to the process of getting covid testing, results, and clearance to return to school. We're making ongoing modifications to try to react to changes in requirements from local schools, and changes in local infection rates, to try to make everything as straightforward as possible. If there is time, we may also discuss some tips on how to make decisions about what is or isn't safe for you or your family right now. We may also touch on some red-flags that your teen may be suffering from some depression right now. Please feel free to comment and let us know if you have any questions, or specific topics you'd like us to discuss!

We are organizing a food drive at the office this holiday season! Drop off non-perishable donations in the waiting room or at the drive thru. Happy Holidays!!

Mountain View Pediatrics 02.10.2020

Call to schedule your child’s flu shot today we have added additional November dates for our drive thru outside flu clinics. By appointment only. (518) 324-2040. Reminder: Parents and over 2 years old must wear mask and no pets in car. Thank you.

Mountain View Pediatrics 14.09.2020

We are finally ready to get started with scheduling flu clinics for this season! We know that you have been waiting for us to release the dates so that you can finally get your child on the schedule, and we have appreciated your patience! We will likely not be holding evening clinics, because it will be dark outside, and we do not yet have any weekends clinics set up, but we will post an update if we do get some on the schedule. We are in the process of acquiring a tent, and ...other equipment, since this year the flu clinics will take place outside. This is what the process will look like: When you arrive just before your appointment time, pull up to the drive-thru on the side of the building. The staff will give you a clean pen and a form to sign. Please sign the consent form and put the pen in the 'used pen' cup. You can then pull forward between the cones, next to the tent, or behind the car in front of you. Here are some ways you can make this new process go more smoothly: - If possible, please only bring the children who will be receiving flu vaccines. - Please do not have pets in your vehicle. - Patients under 18yrs of age, must be accompanied by an adult who is in our system and can sign for their immunizations, or they must have a note that is signed by their parent or guardian. - If you have any changes to your insurance, please bring your new card with you to your appt - Have infants and toddlers under 4 dressed in a diaper/onesie/shorts, and older children dressed in a short-sleeved shirt. Blankets are a great way to stay warm and still allow easy access to their legs or arms. - Children should not be eating or drinking while they receive their vaccines. As always, everyone over 2yrs should be wearing a mask from the time you pull up to the drive-thru until your vehicle pulls away from the tent. All of our staff will be wearing masks, gowns, and gloves, which will be changed between each car in the drive thru line. We will be holding a Facebook Live Q&A on Wednesday 10/7/20 at 6pm, to discuss the changes to flu clinics, return to school protocols, as well as to answer any questions you have about testing, procedures, or other general questions about covid or otherwise.

We just wanted to thank everyone in the community for being so patient with us recently. Since schools have started again, our call volume has increased substantially, and as such, our response times have been longer than usual. Please be reassured that despite the delay, if you leave us a message, we will absolutely get to you, don’t lose hope! We are genuinely doing our best to get to everyone as quickly as possible. Again, thank you, all of you, for being so accommodating. It’s a pleasure working with you to keep the community safe and healthy. We’ll get through this together.

Flu shot season is upon us, and our office is working on our plan to hold flu clinics in a way that is safe and efficient for everyone. We just got our first shipment of flu vaccines in for all insurance companies, as of 9/15/20, and so we are almost ready to start scheduling flu clinics! The best time to get your flu shot is October and November. This is early enough to allow you to develop immunity before the flu cases typically start to increase, but also, late enough to make sure that your protection doesn’t start to decrease before the season is over. We do not have dates firmly set yet to begin scheduling appointments, but keep an eye on this page for updates. We’ll put up a new post when dates are opening up!

Children at all stages of development need iron. It is an important nutrient for growth, brain development and helps cells transport oxygen throughout the body. Many children don't get enough iron in their diet which can lead to iron deficiency anemia, a condition that causes fatigue/weakness. Iron deficiency anemia can impact a child's ability to stay active, concentrate and do well in school. Iron deficiency anemia can be prevented with a balanced, healthy diet that includes good sources of iron and Vitamin C to prevent deficiency. Heme iron is absorbed well by the body while non-heme iron should be paired with Vitamin C to enhance absorption. SWIPE for a list of iron and vitamin C rich foods! #ironandvitaminc @ Mountain View Pediatrics
