Yet another #meaningfulmoment from an alternative break in Washington, D.C. "The picture I took was of the outside of the Steinbruck Center. The Steinbruck Center represented a place where people from all different backgrounds and cultures were able to meet. Some of us knew each other from classes; however, a good amount of us had never talked to each other before. In this building we would develop many friendships. We would have a great time talking to each other and we woul...d have great laughs about different stories/jokes. We would be able to express our emotions over certain services that we were able to attend. This building was where the journey/service started. Chelsea shares her #meaningfulmoment from last year's trip to Belize. It's not too late to sign up for this year's trips. "Monday was a community exploration day. We broke into groups and went into the different communities and talked to the members about hand washing and Gardasil vaccine for young girls. It was amazing to see that people lived in such close-quarters and had their clothes drying out on the lines, dogs wandering around everywhere and chickens (not pictured) roaming around as well." - Chelsea #NazarethCollege #goldenflyers Nazareth Alternative Breaks

Here is another #meaningfulmoment from an alternative break in El Paso, Texas: After our first meal together at Tacos Don Cuco, our host Father Bob showed us the murals in Lincoln Town Park. Located in the heart of the city, this mural is called "El Corazon de El Paso" The heart represents the park as the center between El Paso, Texas and Juarez, Mexico. The arteries represent the highways located above the park. There were so many other stunning murals that represented the cultures of both the United States and Mexico. The deadline for Nazareth Alternative Breaks is 10-10-17. Let's look back at #meaningfulmoments from past participants: Love grows here. At El Hogar, the children and nuns cultivate an environment full of love. Every day we were greeted with smiles and hugs. The love present at the orphanage was tangible and felt in every second of the day. Even as we were waiting for our next construction task, we could quite literally see the love around us regardless of whether or not we could see the children and nuns. This trip has opened my heart immensely, and I have learned so much about love from our time spent in Nicaragua. The Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) is a free summer enrichment program focused on improving access to information and resources for college students interested in the health professions. SHPEP’s goal is to strengthen the academic proficiency and career development of students underrepresented in the health professions and prepare them for a successful application and matriculation to health professions schools. These students include, but are not limited to, individuals who identify as African American/Black, American Indian and Alaska Native and Hispanic/Latino, and who are from communities of socioeconomic and educational disadvantage. http://ow.ly/DkdA30fp9Ch
