May 16-22, 2021, is the 46th annual National EMS Week. In 1974, President Gerald Ford authorized EMS Week to celebrate EMS practitioners and the important work ...they do in our nation's communities. This year's theme is This Is EMS: Caring for Our Communities. The Emergency Services Office would like to recognize the EMS providers throughout Wyoming County for their dedication to serving their communities. The 115+ EMS providers within the county respond to approximately 3,000 calls per year for assistance and log hundreds of hours in training, meetings and response.

Today we recognize International Firefighters' Day. International Firefighters Day is a way to say thank you to the world's firefighters for all that they do t...o keep our communities safe. Born out of a tragic loss of five firefighters in a wildfire in Victoria, Australia, it was a way to honor their lives and the sacrifice that firefighters are willing to make for you and me on a daily basis. This day of recognition is at the core of what the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) does. Their mission is to honor and remember America’s fallen firefighters, to assist their families in rebuilding their lives, and to prevent firefighter injuries and deaths. The role of a firefighter in today’s society be it urban, rural, natural environment, volunteer, career, industrial, defense force, aviation, motor sport, or other is one of dedication, commitment and sacrifice no matter what country we reside and work in. In the fire service we fight together against one common enemy fire no matter what country we come from, what uniform we wear or what language we speak.
