When I first wrote to you about the challenges the Coronavirus would present us this year, I asked for you to remain flexible and to remember that we’re all in this together. Through the spring and summer, I have been amazed over and over again by the strength of our community in the face of this challenge, and for that I want to thank you. In just over a month, on September 8, the fall semester will begin with courses both onsite and online. In her email on June 5, Vice Pres...ident for Academic Affairs and Dean Ellen Fisher explained our new HyFlex (hybrid + flexible) model of course creation and this model, based on maximum flexibility at times of uncertainty, has been our guide as we have prepared for the Fall. We truly believe it will give every student the best of online learning, blended with the best of on-site interaction. For those coming to campus to take or teach their classes, I want to communicate some of the important actions we’ve taken to ensure our community is safe and that we can all remain healthy. First, we have launched an online resource page at http://ow.ly/YJQ550AYsnp that outlines our new policies, procedures, and expectations for returning to campus. Our Return to Campus plan is comprehensive and covers many circumstances. At the highest level, we ask for everyone's commitment to universal use of face masks, daily symptom checks, health trainings, pre-arrival testing, and to participate in ongoing COVID-19 mitigation measures like random testing and contact tracing. I will be emailing you frequently over the next few weeks as we finalize our Return to Campus preparations and look forward to greeting you on campus very soon.
