Orchard Park Presbyterian Church 02.01.2021

Sunday, January 3, 2021 - Happy New Year may God’s blessings of happiness, good health, and love abound for you and your family! We’ll begin our new year in worship this Sunday very appropriately as we gather at our Lord’s Table, even if virtually, to celebrate the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. We will also join our voices together in a Responsive Act of Covenant and Renewal, an opportunity for us to re-commit ourselves as disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ, the one who came not to be served, but to serve.

December 24, 2020 - Sing out, Joy to the World the Lord is come! Repeat the sounding joy! Christmas: the time for carols and wonder and joy as we come to the stable to celebrate the birth of our Lord. Please join us for our very special Christmas Eve Virtual Service of Lessons and Carols as we welcome our Lord, born so humbly, born to bring light and life to all the world. As the Gospel of John teaches us, What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people.

December 21 is the shortest day of the year. With an abundance of darkness and "the most wonderful time of the year" weighing heavily on us all, lots of people ...struggle with grief and pain. A Blue Christmas or Longest Night Service brings people together to acknowledge that pain. Many folks from around our Presbytery have gathered together/apart to create a virtual Longest Night Service for all of us. We offer a service of darkness and light, of voices and silence, of gratitude and petition. We’ll encounter God as we listen to music, scripture, and the sound of our breathing. We’ll respond by lighting candles and offering our own prayers. We invite you to have a candle on hand to light. This weekend, the pre-recorded service will be published to the Presbytery's Facebook and YouTube accounts for churches to use in your own congregations, and all are invited to attend a Zoom gathering at 7:00 pm on Monday, December 21, to watch the video together and share prayers in the chat box. If this gathering exceeds 100 attendees, we will stream it to Facebook at that time so all who wish to participate may be included. We hope this will be a balm of healing in a very difficult season.
