Before COVID, La Jornada, a food pantry was feeding 1,000 families a week. Because of rising unemployment rates, that number has ballooned to 10,000. This Thanksgiving, the business leaders behind the Special Flushing Waterfront District which employ hundreds of employees and construction workers, will pay for 7,...000 turkeys for families in need. This will be distributed in the parking lot at the Hall of Science on Nov 22. Besides groceries, they also have some critical immediate needs - they need more gloves, masks, extra forklifts, palettes and a trash compactor.
