Four Things are killing the Fire Service; 1. Fire Leaders who don't listen and stop learning. 2. Elected officials who take us for granted. 3. Firefighters who dwell on the negative and don't help move their FDs forward. 4. A failure to prepare & train new leaders.

Message from Peter Byrne 44-12: Re Fire Officer Training Chiefs PLEASE READ CAREFULLY... We heard you that many of our firefighters are looking for Fire Officer 1. We contacted the State and we will be offering the first two of the five modules in November. The first module - NYS OFFICER DEVELOPMENT - PLANNING AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE is on Thursday, November 12th (1900 Hours) and on Sunday, November 15th (0900 Hours). Thursday is for three hours and Sunday is for six hours. The second module - NYS OFFICER DEVELOPMENT - COMPANY TRAINING AND COMMUNITY RISK REDUCTION COURSE is on Wednesday, November 18th (1900 Hours), Sunday, November 22nd (0900 Hours) and Wednesday, November 25th (1900 Hours) NYS Fire Specialist Rick Penny is the instructor. We can only take 18 students so each department gets one slot. Please select a member who needs the class and not just someone who is taken it just to take a class. The first 18 to contact me via email (no text, no phone calls) are in the class. The student does not have to take both courses but if they are going for the Fire Officer 1 Certification they will need to have completed all five courses within two years of starting the first course. If we do not receive 18 students in this format we will open it back up for additional members from your department. To complete each course, the students are required to have the IFSTA Fire and Emergency Services Company Officer 5th Edition text ($76 from IFTA Bookstore) and something that they can use in class that can access the internet as each Module’s final is administered through Resource One. Laptops and Tablets are preferred, phones can work but are strongly discouraged as Resource One does not work well on small devices. Additionally, each student will need to create a Resource One account prior to the first night of class so that I can add them into the course. Accounts are free so there should be no issues. We are planning on completing this set of modules by the January/February of 2021. Call me if you have any questions Pete
