Once again this year, the fire escape on Church Street does not disappoint. Absolutely gorgeous flowers adorn it from top to bottom. I will have to get a shot of the entire building (too many cars parked out front when I took this one) to show all the flower boxes in the windows as well!

Did you know Saratoga Springs was the site of a state women's rights convention in 1856? Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton held two in New York that year to support petition campaigns and distribute literature. One in Albany coincided with the beginning of the legislative session; the other was at Congress Hall, a hotel that stood on the east side of Broadway, where the entrance to Congress Park is today. It was timed to coincide with the racing meet to spread the anti-slavery and women's rights message to southern horse owners and tourists. Source: National Park Service

A statement From James Parillo, Executive Director of the Saratoga Springs History Museum, and Samantha Bosshart, Executive Director of the Saratoga Springs Preservation Foundation. This morning we are sad and disappointed to report that the monument to the 77th NY Volunteers, or the Bemis Height’s Regiment, in Congress Park was toppled over and shattered during the night. The monument was erected in 1875 on the 10th Anniversary of the end of the Civil War to honor the men o...f the 77th who lost their lives fighting for the Union Army. The 77th was made up of men from Saratoga Springs, Wilton, Schuylerville, and other surrounding communities who volunteered, not those who were drafted. When the regiment was raised, it was supposed to be numbered in the 30’s, but the officers petitioned to have the unit commissioned as the 77th in honor of the Battle of Saratoga, fought in 1777. The monument originally stood in the center of Broadway at the entrance of Congress Park. In 1921 it was moved into Congress Park as it became a difficult obstacle for automobiles to navigate. We hope that security cameras show the vandals in the act so they can be identified and found. If you have any information, please contact the Saratoga Springs Police Department at (518) 584-1800. We are excited to unveil The Grand Hotels of Saratoga Springs tomorrow!

Saratoga Springs History Museum 30.07.2020

We haven't posted many videos recently because we have been working diligently to re-open! We are happy to announce that we will re-open Friday, July 3. The Museum will be open Fridays through Sundays from 10:00 4:00 through the month of July, and will then re-evaluate and possibly extend hours. The Museum is following all recommended COVID-19 safety protocols. Social distancing and the wearing of facemasks are required of staff and visitors. The pandemic forced us to delay the opening of our new exhibit, The Great Hotels of Saratoga Springs. We are excited that you can finally view this visual display that we teased in a few photos. We will see you soon!
