The Sodus Chamber is partnering with Sodus Nursing Home to send some cheer to their residents with your help. We are starting this project of Hello Cards off with Valentines cards that you can either make or buy. The staff at Sodus Rehab will make sure the residents get your card that can be dropped off at the Sodus Library for delivery, or you can mail directly to Sodus Nursing Home, Attention Activities, 6884 Maple Ave, Sodus NY 14551. We’d like you to contin...ue sending Hello Cards every week or so, and again they may be mailed or dropped off at the library. The cards need not be bought and if you have Microsoft Word there are templates for all types of cards (plain paper will be fine and envelopes are not needed). You can even just fold plain paper into fourths and draw or paste on a picture. Just a few short sentences will mean the world to a resident who can’t have any visitors due to the Covid restrictions. If you would like to connect with just one resident let us know and we will pair you with help from Sodus Nursing Home. The Sodus School is also having the students participate with this project. If you belong to a group or organization that would like to do cards, that would be perfect since the more cards the better. The residents appreciate knowing someone is thinking of them, even if they don’t know you. What better and easier way to spread some cheer, bring a smile and say Hello. Yahoo Mail Stationery

The entire Village of Sodus and Town of Sodus office phones have been in and out of service. Please be patient while our carrier works on the problem. It may take sometime as our carrier said it is a multi system failure that is blocking our system. You can contact the Village Clerk via email at [email protected]. com. Thank you, Village of Sodus

Unfortunately, a second Village employee has tested positive for the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. This employee was on vacation for the Thanksgiving holiday, and had no interactions with anyone in our community during the contagious phase of this disease. We wish this person a speedy recovery, and continue to encourage everyone to practice social distancing, hand washing, and mask wearing.

Come on by and drop off your old prescriptions. We now have a monitored, locked drop box located in front of the Village Clerks office inside the municipal building.

The Village of Sodus needs your help! Governor Cuomo's Executive Order #203 requires each municipality with law enforcement responsibilities to come together as a community to examine and talk about our police policies and practices. Our goal is to ensure that our laws are enforced fairly and equally without prejudice or bias. We are currently collecting data from the community to inform our work. Data is being collected in three ways:... 1. We will be holding two virtual public forums in early December. Dates, times, and meeting links will be posted here in the coming days. 2. A member of the Police Reform and Reinvention Task Force may reach out to you individually or in groups to gather your opinions. 3. A short survey is available on the Village web site. Please take a few moments to complete it. The survey can be found at https://www.villageofsodus.org/police-department. Let's work together to make our community even better! With Warm Regards, David Englert Mayor Village of Sodus

Our members are doing cool(ing) things! Our member organizations are doing *a lot* of work to accelerate climate solutions in our region. The Village of Sodu...s, NY (Wayne County) was of the first municipalities in New York to take the Climate Smart Communities pledge. Since then, their Climate Smart Community Task Force, led by Mayor David Englert, has replaced 168 village street light fixtures with LED bulbs (saving $25,000 annually); purchased green power for municipal energy; installed the first EV stations along the Route 104 corridor; and is working to establish its own solar electric generation for the village and its residents. #climatesolutionsaccelerators #villageofsodus https://sodusvillage.org/ See more

This Week in the Village: Work will begin on the State Street Drainage Project as weather permits. This week, there will be some digging. We'll be laying new pipe and catch basins. Expect some disruptions at LeFever's Automotive, Fat Frankie's, Imprint, and the Laundromat. All businesses will remain accessible, just maybe not through the driveway you expect. Please exercise caution. We apologize for any inconvenience. Later this week (probably Thursday and Friday) we will be ...flushing fire hydrants throughout the village. This work will take place in the early morning hours to inconvenience as few people as possible. You may notice water on the streets and a slight decrease in water pressure while this process is going on. Saturday, from 12 - 2, the Sodus Fire Department is holding a chicken BBQ. Pick up at the Firemen's Field. Tickets are available from any member of the fire company, or at the Village Office at 14-16 Mill Street. $12 gets you 1/2 chicken, baked beans, salt potatoes, and a roll with butter. Also on Saturday, there will be a prescription medicine drop off at the DPW barn at 39 Gaylord Street. Bring any medicine you no longer need, want, or can use between 9 AM and 2 PM. This event is free and open to anyone. Stay Safe and Keep Well, David Englert Mayor

Village of Sodus October 15, 2020 For Immediate Release:... It has been brought to my attention that an employee of the Village of Sodus has tested positive for the Coronavirus that causes COVID-19. The employee has had no concerning contact with anyone in the community for much longer than is considered likely to pose a risk of transmission, so I am confident that this is an isolated incident. The employee will remain in isolation until all risk of transmission has passed. Please remain vigilant with social distancing, mask wearing, and hand washing. David J. Englert Mayor Village of Sodus

The railroad crossing on Maple Avenue in the Village will officially open to vehicular (and foot!) traffic at 8:00 am this morning (September 24th). PLEASE BE AWARE that the crossing gates are not in place yet, so exercise caution when crossing the tracks. Trains are big and always have the right-of-way. This week in the Village: Paving will take place at the southern end of Mill Street. During this process, the intersections of Mill (east toward Robinson Road) and the Mill Street Extension (south toward the school), and Mill and Benton Place will be inaccessible for several hours. The exact date and time of this work is dependent on several factors beyond our control, but it will take place as early in the week as possible. We will be up on Orchard Terrace, working on improv...ing what drainage there is. This will involve some scraping of the roadsides. Do not be alarmed. We will smooth everything out and hydro-seed when we are finished with what we have to do. We have a date for the work on the Maple Avenue Railroad crossing! Maple Avenue will be CLOSED TO THROUGH-TRAFFIC starting at 6:00 AM on Tuesday, September 8th, and it will remain CLOSED TO THROUGH-TRAFFIC until work is complete (approximately four weeks).

Be prepared for major disruptions to through traffic for several weeks.
