On Thursday, February 18 at approximately 3:55 p.m. EST the Perseverance Mars Rover landed on planet Mars. Did you know that a former South Colonie CSD student is playing a role in this historic project? Sean O’Brien, a Class of 2013 graduate, is a contractor for NASA and has built a component of the device to gather materials from the planet, while keeping it secure for research purposes back on Earth. The Saddlewood Pre-K classroom took on a project to make care packages to show kindness and say thank you to dedicated healthcare workers at Albany Med. The students were so proud to share these Kindness Bags with the nurses in the Pediatric Emergency Room. Here are a few pics of the nurses accepting the bags. Way to go Saddlewood Pre-K! Kindness rules!
South Colonie students continue to achieve their goals in today’s classroom. Recently, CCHS Senior Reilly Pannone received his Heating Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) industry certification. As a student with the Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School, he can now pursue his federal EPA 608 certification. The certification shows future employers and government regulators that students know how to maintain, service, and dispose of equipment without releasing harmful refrigerants into the environment.

During the 2020-21 school year, students and staff at Saddlewood Elementary set a building-wide goal to keep connected. Throughout the month of December, each class developed a ‘kindness’ project and shared those highlights, via email/video/photos, with fellow students. Such a fun project to continue acts of kindness in today's classroom.

Check it out! Distancing learning couldn't keep these students from participating in 'Grinch day' with their classmates. On Monday, Dec. 21 students in Mr. Underwood's class celebrated by dressing up in their favorite Grinch gear. #ThisIsColonie
