"Millions of Americans have chronic viral hepatitis, but many of them don’t even know they are infected, at risk for severe complications, and can spread the disease to others. Untreated, viral hepatitis is the leading cause of liver cancer and the most common reason for liver transplants. The good news is that both hepatitis A and hepatitis B are preventable with safe and effective vaccines, and hepatitis C, which kills more American than any other infectious disease, can be cured in 95% of cases. People at risk for viral hepatitis, include healthcare professionals, people who use or inject drugs, and people with HIV/AIDS. But getting tested is the only way to know if you have hepatitis. #gettested #hepatitstestingday

Our CEO shows off some of the hundreds of backpacks, masks and back-to-school supplies the agency collected for the children and grandchildren of our patients. START distributed these at the Highbridge, Third Horizon and Kaleidoscope, REACH and Starting Point clinics in Manhattan, and at its Fort Greene, Bushwick and East New York clinics in Brooklyn. START would like to thank the Northfield Bank Foundation, MedSupplyDrive, and WeAreUnaltered for their respective donations to this year's back to school supply drive. #backtoschool2020 #nyclife #harlem #bushwick #highbridge #fortgreene #eastnewyork

Every year, we provide backpacks with school supplies for the children and grandchildren of patients at our clinics. This year is no exception. Although school may be remote, blended or in person this year, our patients appreciate your support as we enter a new school year! This September, we have over 250 children who need school supplies to effectively complete their school year. If you are interested in supporting our back to school supply initiative, please donate via ww...w.startny.org/donate. We thank you for your generosity! #nyccommunity #backtoschool2020

It’s Time. No, It’s Past Time! With the passing of the Honorable Congressman John Lewis, we recognize the loss of another Hero, not just for African Americans, but for all Americans. Congressman Lewis shared a sense of hope that the United States would ultimately realize the promises pledged to all Americans. He matched his hope with an understanding that it must include a commitment by all Americans as reflected in the following quotes:... The vote is the most powerful nonviolent tool we have. The vote is precious. It's almost sacred, so go out and vote like you never voted before. Recovery represents START’s promise to our patients, our adolescents, their families, and the communities in which they live. The services we provide every day are down payments toward recovery, a transformation possible for every patient and adolescent under care. Assisting patients to exercise their right to vote represents the intersection between Congressmen Lewis’ strong encouragement to all Americans and START’s role in facilitating our patients’ achievement of this ingredient in their recovery. Given the undeniable connection between the covid-19 and opiate overdose pandemics and decades of racial discrimination, strengthening START’s efforts so our patients may exercise their right to vote is not only timely, but past time. Let us strive to remove any impediments so their right to vote can be realized as a component of their treatment plan on their road to recovery. #vote2020
