Our artisan partners are masters at transforming potential waste into beautiful new creations. The Branching Out Wall Art is made with discarded 55 gallon oil ...drums that are cleaned, flattened, and hammered and cut by hand into a masterpiece by artists in Haiti. Fair trade workshops not only promote sustainable design, but they allow the space for artisans to freely use their creativity in their work every day. Check out all the amazing Cut Metal designs made from 100% recycled metal in your local store and online: http://ow.ly/Y27g50DGX7W
When you’re a baby, eating is messy business. And when you're a mom, minimizing the mess is the name of the game. Our artisan partners in Bangladesh design...ed a sustainable (and stylish) solution! The Sari & Terry Cloth Bib doubles as a burp cloth so that no matter what stage of the process your little one is in, their clothes (and yours!) will stay clean. And the best part? Each bib is handmade with recycled sari textiles that have been lovingly cleaned and stitched into one-of-a-kind creations as unique as the woman who made it - and the baby who wears it. Honoring craft traditions with long-term relationships. That's what the Maker-to-Market Movement is all about. Pottery making is one of the oldest tradition...s in Vietnam, and the village of Bat Trang is famous for its blue and white hand-painted ceramics that were once reserved for royalty. Our fair trade friends at Craft Link are masters at this ancient technique, and we are honored to partner together to bring their pieces to you for 21 years. #LiveLifeFair See more
Americans spent over $6 million on paper towels in 2020. That's a lot of trees being cut down, and waste being sent to landfills. There's a better way! Inv...esting in sturdy, easy to clean cotton towels and napkins means you spend less on single-use paper products, send less trash to the curb, and save trees. We've been investing in partnerships that empower since 1946. So, why are we in it for the long haul? Because we know that long-term fair trade relationshi...ps create a path for women to gain financial independence, causing their daughters, families, and communities to flourish. Because we have seen social stigmas break down when marginalized people have access to safe, dignified employment. Because we have had the honor of watching small workshops expand to hire new artisans, children grow up and go to school, and the cycle of generational poverty be broken. This is why we #LiveLifeFair. Happy #FairTradeMonth! See more
The Bombshell Collection is a favorite, and it's easy to see why. Our partners in Cambodia transform safely collected bombshells and bullets, left over fr...om years of war, and into wearable symbols of peace. By recycling the very same material that was once so destructive into something beautiful, the artisans of Rajana have found not only a way to support themselves, but a way to promote healing and hope. Speed over quality is not our style. We are honored to partner with artisans in India working to preserve the art of block printing, which has remained largely ...unchanged for centuries. We believe that good (not to mention gorgeous) things take time. Why? Because we know that artisan skills have been passed down through the generations. They're part of the story of a place and people. We work together with our partners to preserve artistic legacies, while spurring innovation and designs that speak to customers who love craft and culture too. Happy #FairTradeMonth! You've heard a lot about our Recycled Sari Collection, but do you know where the saris come from? Mobile shopkeepers travel through rural areas of Banglade...sh, selling home goods. Sometimes products are purchased through trading items like used saris, which have value in the marketplace. The sellers head back to town, sort through their goods, and sell the used saris to their local recycled sari shop. There, they are bundled up by the dozen or more, and ready to be resold. Our fair trade partners purchase these bundles and sort them based on color, material, and quality. After they are thoroughly cleaned, the saris are distributed to the workshops and transformed into sustainable designs. Fair trade inspires innovation. We are so honored to partner with artisans who continue to find sustainable solutions to complex challenges. Welcome to the world, little one. We're so glad you're here. Wrap them up in love with the Sari Baby Blanket, stitched by hand with the traditional Kantha ...technique by our partners in Bangladesh. Because every blanket is made from recycled sari textile, each is as unique as the woman who made it... and the baby it swaddles. Meet Tasleem! In his hometown of Moradabad, there are many cobblers that are not making a fair wage, despite their great skill. Tasleem knew that the artis...ans in his community would thrive if they had access to dignified work and sustainable income, so he devised a plan! After approaching a few cobblers and discovering that their tools worked well with tough materials, he started a fair trade workshop to transform used tires into Recycled Tire Planters. Connecting artisans with opportunity is why we #LiveLifeFair. Happy #FairTradeMonth! You can change the course of COVID recovery and connect artisans with opportunities with your donation.
