Once a week, on Thursdays, the kitchen will serve a New York State of Mind menu, highlighting local ingredients from Long Island and New York State. The venue also offers an extensive wine list with a selection from New York State wineries and its own craft beer, Gatsby Golden Ale, brewed by the Patchogue Beer Project.

On June 29 to 30, the LIC Flea & Food will open at 5-25 46th Ave., nearby the iconic Pepsi-Cola sign along the Long Island City waterfront. Shoppers can browse through vintage and handcrafted items while enjoying international cuisine as well as local craft beer in their Beer & Wine Garden.

Like many others, Braven was part of the Gotham craft beer explosion that transformed New York from a craft beer backwater with three local production breweries in 2012, to a goldmine with more than 30 now. That number doubles when you factor in the extraordinary brewing going on in surrounding areas in Long Island, the Hudson Valley, and northern New Jersey.

Talea Beer Co. has launched with Sun Up, a hazy IPA. Founded by Tara Hankinson and LeAnn Darland, Talea (pronounced tuh-lay-uh) aims to create easy-drinking staples and rotating seasonals that are approachable for even the most casual beer drinker.

About 2 million Americans live with celiac disease, and many more have gluten intolerance that prevents them from consuming wheat, barley, or rye. To the dismay of many, this excludes beer from their diets. The bright side? Compared with a few years ago, craft beers catering to gluten-free and gluten-sensitive audiences are aplenty. From dedicated gluten-free operations like Holidaily Brewing and Ghostfish Brewing, to national brands like New Belgium and Stone incorporating gluten-reduced options in their lineups, this once-mysterious (and arguably sub-par) category has officially made it to the mainstream.

The team from Sand City Brewing Co. has big plans for their location in Lindenhurst, which they’re hoping to open sometime next spring.

Long Island is about to get another craft beer brewery. Noble Savage Brewing Company, located at 27 Glen St. in Glen Cove, is slated to open its doors on June 1.

Blue Point Brewing Co., a Long Island-based craft brewery, did a lot of research crafting the right beer for that [cantina] concept, including a visit to the Taco Bell test kitchen in California, said Blue Point president Jenna Lally. That exploration yielded the Big City Bell Pilsner, a toasted lager custom-made for the menu.
