6-23-21 5:24 PM: Water Service Restored The Water Department has repaired a water main break at the corner of E. Main St. and Elm St. All water customers who experienced a loss of water should have their water service restored at this time.... Water customers throughout the Village may experience discolored water as a result of sediment in the water distribution system that was stirred up by the repair. We ask that anyone experiencing discolored water allow each faucet in your house to run until the water clears.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24 With Halloween just one week away, I have been receiving numerous questions about how things will be managed on the 31st. To help facilita...te a safe environment for those families who are already planning to trick or treat in the Village, we will be closing certain streets within the Village to thru-traffic (residents of those streets will still be able to come and go as needed) from 5pm 8pm on Halloween. This will allow for greater freedom of movement while maintaining distancing for those who plan to trick or treat. Details can be found here: https://trumansburg-ny.gov//upl/2020/10/TburgHalloween.pdf The Tompkins County Health Department has provided detailed guidance on best practices for a safe Halloween. Choosing alternate activities to trick or treating is strongly encouraged. Guidance can be found here, which includes recommendations for how to distribute candy, recommendations for trick or treaters, and what activities to avoid: https://tompkinscountyny.gov//f/coronavirussocialdistance Fall is in full swing, and our Village DPW has begun leaf pickup throughout the Village. This will continue through the week of Thanksgiving. We ask that leaves be piled as close to the curb as possible, and that residents try to keep sticks and debris out of the leaf piles. Tompkins County is in the process of developing a multi-year Hazard Mitigation Plan to cover everything from natural disasters, to recurring storms and flooding, and much more. The completed plan will make the County, and municipalities within the County, eligible for any number of state and federal grants. Part of the planning process seeks input from the public which can be given through a short survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TompkinsHMP2020 Please take a few minutes to complete the survey with an eye to how the survey questions apply to you where you live. Finally, as we see a resurgence in Covid cases in surrounding municipalities, please remember the importance of taking care of yourself and your loved ones. Even beyond mask requirements and distancing guidelines, the time tested practices of hand washing, staying warm, and getting proper nutrition and adequate rest are key to staying healthy!

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8 Today wraps up the fourth full week of classes for Trumansburg School District, and I want to once again thank the teachers, staff, and adm...inistration for the tremendous efforts they continue to make to ensure as positive an educational experience as possible for their students. Everything about 2020 has been a lesson in flexibility and adaptation and I greatly appreciate the ongoing work-in-progess at TCSD. And speaking of the school, this year’s senior class is holding a chicken BBQ fundraiser this Saturday at 11am at Ron Don’s. The Class of 2021 continues to face a lot of uncertainty about what their senior year will look like, after already having missed out on numerous events at the end of their junior year. Please consider grabbing a meal and supporting the class as they raise money to make their last year in high school a memorable one! On the Village front, I am pleased to announce that we are in the final stages of securing a $125,000 grant to address certain stormwater issues in a few specific sections of the Village. While there will remain other areas of the Village that will continue to need attention, this is a fantastic start to a more comprehensive approach to stormwater management throughout the Village. I want to thank retiring Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton for nominating the Village for this grant award! More details to come as the process moves forward in the coming months.

SEPTEMBER 12, 2020 Warm days and cool nights, when leaves begin to change, can only mean one thing Back to School! And as 2020 continues to bring the unprec...edented, back to school will also be unlike any other. Please visit http://www.tburgschools.org/ regularly for updates. Of note for Village residents, Whig Street will be ONE WAY ONLY from South Street to the school campus during drop-off and pick-up times beginning Monday and until further notice. Anyone going to the Elementary or Middle Schools will need to enter Whig St. from South St. or Truman St. The Main St. main entrance to the school will be for access to the High School only, as well as for traffic exiting the school grounds. In an effort to support 7th and 8th grade students who will be participating in the hybrid schooling model, the Town Recreation Department, led by Will Glennon, will be offering daytime support for these students on days that they do not attend in-person classes. The program is a collaboration with Cornell Cooperative Extension, leadership from the Middle School, and the Trumansburg Education Foundation. The program will be offered at the Trumansburg Fairgrounds Monday thru Thursday, from 9am-1pm, and will run from September 14 to October 15 (efforts are being made to extend the program through the winter months, if necessary, at another location). Covid-19 safety protocols will be maintained at all times, student groups will remain small, and one adult aide/camp counselor will be assigned to each student group. Students will be expected to complete their remote learning assignments during this time, and other activities will be planned as well. Parents will be responsible for transportation to and from the program. A special thank you to Paul Griswold, and the folks at OTTC, for donating and installing a broadband wifi drop at the Trumansburg Fairgrounds to be used by this program at no charge. Any parent who is interested in signing up for this program can do so through the Ulysses Rec Program Rec Desk: https://ulysses.recdesk.com/Community/Home . This is NOT a school sponsored or operated program, so please direct questions to the Village of Trumansburg (including myself), or the Town of Ulysses. On a separate note, Village elections, postponed since March, will be held this coming Tuesday the 15th. All registered voters who live in the Village of Trumansburg are eligible to vote. In-person voting will be held in the Main Meeting Room of the Village Hall, Elm St. entrance, from Noon 9pm. Masks will be required and physical distancing guidelines must be maintained. An absentee ballot can still be requested in-person at the Tompkins County Board of Elections on Monday. Any absentee ballots that were requested previously but that have not yet been mailed back to the Board of Elections must be postmarked by Monday.
