Join us as we raise funds for our patients like Bhani and her husband who come to CMC Vellore from far with the hope of healing! https://fundraisers.giveindia.o...rg//hope-for-our-cancer-pat , . Bhani* had severe pain in her stomach and she was bleeding from time to time. Her worried husband brought her to a nearby hospital in West Bengal where he was advised to take her straight to CMC Vellore. He was a compounder but had lost his job during the lockdown. The couple leased their land, borrowed money and travelled to Vellore last November. They had high hopes for healing ... until they heard the diagnosis: ! ! he said, . Bhani looked frail and weak. Her husband told the doctors that he would take her home, where she could pass away in peace with her children around her. He had given up on life. This is just one story. Everyday we see hundreds of distressed families like Bhani and her husband. They travel many miles to CMC Vellore, hoping for relief. ! CMC doctors convinced the couple to stay. They said "Bhani is only 37, and has a life to live! The cancer is treatable. She can beat it!" Her husband agreed, when they promised to help. !! Bhani's treatment was made possible thanks to friends who give to help our patients. She has been in Vellore for the last three months to complete her course of advanced radiotherapy. Though she looks a little weak, Bhani is responding well to the treatment. The couple hopes to go back to their hometown soon to see their son and daughter. We believe that everyone has the right to quality care. Help us bridge the gap for those who can't afford it. ! Donate today to give hope and healing to people like Bhani. Your gift goes a long way to help a person in need, no gift is too small! https://fundraisers.giveindia.org//hope-for-our-cancer-pat #WorldCancerDay *name changed

Dr. Prakash Shetty (Batch '61) had a broad view about science not restricted to the experimental sciences alone, or to biology, but more in keeping with the word science in its original Latin root form scientia knowledge. St. John's Research Institute's Professor Prakash Shetty Public Lecture aims to draw speakers from all fields spanning medicine, culture, philosophy, and literature, among others to communicate "science" to a wider audience. This year, Dr. Soumya ...Swaminathan, Chief Scientist at the WHO will deliver the Lecture titled "The Pandemic: Lessons for Science and Public Health". CMC's Low-Cost Effective Care Unit (LCECU) program "has continued to provide care to the most vulnerable populations in Vellore since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. This was possible because of our pre-existing community engagement in the informal settlements and our COPC model of primary care... It is our long-term relationships and community networks, built over time, that allow us to support vulnerable populations in a crisis such as the COVID-19 pandemic." Learn more about LCECU and how you can help their efforts here: https://vellorecmc.org/program-support/compassionate-care//
