Childhood cancer survivor returns to the same hospital as a nurse 20 years later

Wee Care Pediatrics, PLLC 10.01.2021

Amanda Fessler’s young daughter had just had brain surgery, and she was driving her and other family members home from the hospital. Suddenly, the car broke dow...n in the middle of the 2-hour trip. She got off the highway and a tow truck driver was nice enough the get Amanda and her family to a hotel for the night. But what could she do with her car? The following is what Amanda posted on Facebook a short time later: In the midst of all the craziness on Monday, with my Aunt’s funeral, my daughter being discharged from A I DuPont hospital, the car breaking down (in between 3 lanes of traffic coming off of 95 South onto RT 1 to my left and merging traffic to my right), then getting towed to a hotel for the night in Christiana, we had an angel looking out for us. This man recognized our distress in the morning while trying to replace the car’s serpentine belt. He not only offered his tools, he came in and saved the day. Not many people would have been so generous and rushed to the aid to help others. His assistance came at a real time of need. Our check out time was growing near and my daughter desperately needed to get home to recover from her brain surgery. I could not thank him enough for all that he did. Please help me show him some love by sharing this post in hopes that it finds him. He was definitely our angel that day. After Amanda’s post had been shared some 4,000 times in a very short period, that man or that angel was identified as Donta Thompson. The mechanic said he tries to help people out whenever he can because he feels it’s the right thing to do. Photo credit: Amanda Bunting Fessler

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Practice Update Jan 3,2021 Good news!!!! Our staff is now at full strength and has recovered from a variety of illnesses. We have been medically compromised since late November of 2020 and have had to curtail our services for a short time. COVID 19 has been shown to be extremely contagious and is most likely to cause serious problems in older adults (over age 50) and/or those who have chronic medical problems. In most cases, children and young a...dults who get COVID fully recover and do well. Wee Care continues to be open for well visits and will see any issues where COVID is not likely to be a factor. We are not able to do in office COVID testing at this time. All sick visits that might involve COVID are being redirected to other centers for appropriate testing and evaluations. Telemed visits are now available for certain visits (some counseling and follow up visits). Many schools have gone to full time at home virtual learning. While some students learn better in this setting, many are missing the in person classroom contact and are having difficulties. It has been a difficult and challenging time for everyone. Thanks to all those who are giving themselves to help others ...... parents, teachers, children, families and all other support groups. See more

Who's ready for the New Year?! [ Clip from Happy New Year, Charlie Brown! Original release: January 1, 1986]

I just witnessed a boy, maybe about 6 or 7, accidentally spill a slushee everywhere in Target. I didn't get a photo but I'm including one of my son and I. I'm t...alking blue and red goop all over the floor, the table, everywhere. The boy looked up at who I assume was his father, and immediately apologized. Instead of getting angry, his father just said 'Hey, it happens. Let's go get napkins and I can show you how to clean it up.' Then they calmly went to get napkins and then he helped him clean the entire mess. Then, as they were throwing the napkins away, the father said to his son, 'You're going to be a human being for a long time, and you have such a smart brain that it's important you learn how to be more aware of what you're doing. So next time just be sure to pay more attention to your surroundings so accidents like this don't happen. Accidents like these can be prevented, but it's still okay if they happen. As long as you take responsibility for your mistakes, the clean up is a breeze. I know big messes seem overwhelming and you might feel like you can't do it by yourself, but it's always okay to ask for help. There is no problem with asking for help when you need it.' I have no words. That is parenting done right. Credit: Kalynne Marie

Charley, a new retiree-greeter at Wal-Mart, just couldn't seem to get to work on time. Every day he was 5, 10, 15 minutes late. But he was a good worker, really... tidy, clean-shaven, sharp-minded and a real credit to the company and obviously demonstrating their "Older Person Friendly" policies. One day the boss called him into the office for a talk. "Charley, I have to tell you, I like your work ethic, you do a bang-up job when you finally get here, but your being late so often is quite bothersome." "Yes sir, I know, and I am working on it." "Well good, you are a team player. That's what I like to hear. Yes sir, I understand your concern and I’ll try harder. Seeming puzzled, the manager went on to comment, It's odd though you're coming in late. I know you're retired from the Armed Forces. What did they say to you there if you showed up in the morning so late and so often?" The old man looked down at the floor, then smiled. He chuckled quietly, then said with a grin, "They usually saluted and said, "Good morning General, can I get your coffee sir?"

I'll admit it. Bruce always checked their candy before they were allowed to eat any. They wondered why people never gave them peanut butter cups.

"In the grocery store, he screamed as he wanted out of the baby carrier that was on my chest, and instead he wanted his big sister. She walked him up and down a...isles, ever so patiently. I’m sure her arms were heavy, but she never complained once. He was in Heaven and didn’t move or make a peep as he snuggled closely against her. These are the moments that make my tired, frustrated Mama heart just burst with joy and love. I’ve learned this life is a total team effort. Thankful for my team." Credit: The Real Deal of Parenting

Bojangles was informed he wasn't allowed to hold Shirley Temple's hand while filming the stair scene in the film, "The Little Colonel." She insisted anyway and ...grabbed his hand during the act. This scene became the first time where an integrated couple was filmed dancing together on film. She also credits him for making her a better dancer throughout her career. Grace Kelly reluctantly left an upscale restaurant (The Stork Club) with her whole party after witnessing no one willing to serve Josephine Baker. With the help of Grace Kelly, Josephine was able to regenerate her career and the two remained friends for life. Mr. Rogers invited a Officer Clemmons to come join him in his pool when society said it was still not okay for blacks and whites to share swimming pools together. Mr. Rogers broke a color barrier during this iconic episode in 1969. FDR and Elanor Roosevelt invited Marian Anderson to sing at National Mall in front of thousands and on the radio to millions of listeners after being denied a stage with the DAR becuase she was black. The performance has been listed as one of the most memorable live performances during the past few centuries. In other words... Yeah its hard to live in color when you just see black and white. In a world full of hate, Be A Light. Be A Light.

WHAT IS GOING AROUND OCTOBER 29, 2020 Not much has changed from last week. Sicknesses have remained the same with little change. School is in session. With any illness or symptoms of illness, COVID status determination continues to be a major concern. At this time, COVID is not a major health problem in this area. Many have been tested but we have seen very few positive results. Much fear remains in the community and it is based on the reports of numbers of ca...Continue reading
