Active FDNY Firefighter Anthony Mauro is battling a deadly cancer that has effected him and his family tremendously. Due to his illness he is unable to work and his wife had to take a leave of absence since Anthony's diagnosis back in September; in order to care of him. We want to share this fundraiser to help ease his family of any financial burdens that may appear in the future. Many of his friends and fellow firefighters know Anthony is an absolute warrior, willing to do whatever it takes in order to succeed. We wish Firefighter Mauro all the best and we look forward to having you back on the job. https://www.gofundme.com/f/AnthonyMauro

The Uniformed Firefighters Association is saddened to learn of the loss of a brother, doctor, legendary firefighter and member of the Uniformed Firefighters Association, Firefighter Michael Everett Brown, MD. Brother of Captain Paddy Brown, whom we lost on Sept. 11, 2001, Firefighter Brown is known for personally sharing his story in the response and recovery at the World Trade Center. In his published work, What Brothers Do, he epitomized what so many experienced while helping our city in the days, weeks, and months after the terrorist attacks. This is a major loss to our firefighter family and his legacy cannot be overstated. We offer his loved ones, and Engine Co. 37, our sincerest condolences during this tremendously difficult time.We will #NeverForget

Earlier this morning , Engine 90 and Ladder 41 were responding to an accident involving an overturned vehicle in the Bronx. While responding to the call, a man was standing out on the edge of traffic and threw a large, unknown object at the windshield of Engine 90, chauffeur side, thus shattering the windshield and covering the chauffeur in glass. The chauffeur of Engine 90 abruptly halted, Ladder 41 as well, and in return the man then produced a the knife and proceeded to c...ircle the apparatus, stabbing and vandalizing the vehicle in multiple areas. He also began to attack Ladder 41 and attempted to enter the cabin of both apparatuses where members were inside but luckily, his attempts were unsuccessful. The members of both Ladder 41 and Engine 90 called for police assistance and continued to drive their vehicles slowly to ensure the perpetrator was distracted and didn't attempt to attack civilians in the near area. Fortunately, the police the arrived on scene and were able to apprehend the suspect after an unsuccessful getaway attempt. Both companies had to be taken out of service for repairs to the apparatus, and were unavailable to protect the citizens of the Bronx until they were fixed. Attacks like these, unfortunately, have happened to multiple FDNY Firefighters and Apparatuses as of recent, either by rioters or by separate violent individuals. Crime and violence is on the rise in New York City and it is now affecting our firefighters from doing their job. Something must be done about this before it only gets worst.

The United States' Department of Treasury has officially refunded nearly $4 million that was dropped from a healthcare fund that assisted firefighters and 9/11 first responders.

I’m happy to hear that the millions of funds that mysteriously disappeared from the FDNY WTC Healthcare Program were returned and going forward reimbursements will not be used to offset the city’s debt. Ailing 9/11 first responders have enough to worry about and thankfully will no longer have to worry about their healthcare being compromised. I am glad that Secretary Mnuchin found a way to fix it, as we asked him to do a week ago. -Uniformed Firefighters Association President Andrew Ansbro https://www.pix11.com//us-treasury-department-returns-4m-f
