At 7:30pm, the City of Long Beach Fire Department was alerted for smoke in a house on the 200 block of East Walnut St. Firefighters were met with a smoke condition inside the basement from an unknown source. After further investigation and increasing smoke, firefighters located a fire between the basement ceiling and first floor. The fire was extinguished without any further damage to the rest of the home and all units were back in service within 45 minutes.

At 6:33am, the City of Long Beach Fire Department was alerted for a mutual aid request to Meadowmere Park. The initial call came over at 5:45am for an explosion, completely leveling a home and rapidly spreading fire to surrounding houses and vehicles. Long Beach Engine 4, Ladder 2 and Ambulance 21 were assigned to the alarm and assisted with firefighting and rescue operations. One civilian and two firefighters were transported to local area hospitals with injuries and we pray for their quick recoveries. Multiple departments throughout Nassau County responded to the scene, as well as the FDNY, NYPD, NCPD, Nassau County Fire Marshals and Nassau County Office of Emergency Management. The City of Long Beach Fire Department is currently responding to Meadowmere Park (border of NYC) on a mutual aid request. A gas main has exploded with multiple homes on fire. Multiple Nassau County fire departments are on scene, along with the FDNY. More updates to follow as needed.
At 9:50pm, the City of Long Beach Fire Department was requested to respond to Island Park with an ambulance to assist the Island Park Volunteer Fire Department at the scene of a three car motor vehicle crash on Austin Blvd. Long Beach Ambulance 2321 was assigned to the alarm and helped transport one of multiple patients to local area hospitals. The Nassau County Police Department is on scene and investigating the cause.

Yesterday at 10:01pm, the City of Long Beach Fire Department was alerted for a motor vehicle collision on the unit block of E. Beech Street. First arriving units found two heavily damaged vehicles, one of which was up on the sidewalk and partially in the front yard of a home. Upon further investigation, multiple parked vehicles were also involved in the accident prior to the final collision. Occupants from each vehicle were safely removed to area hospitals for further evaluation and treatment. The cause of the collision is under investigation by the LBPD.
*Emergency School Closing* As per the City of Long Beach Public School District, all schools will be CLOSED following today’s dismissals for the next 14 days due to an increase in COVID cases. *Tropical / Post Tropical Weather Alert* Tropical Storm Zeta has formed in the Caribbean Sea and is expected to strengthen into a hurricane once it reaches the Gulf of Mexico. From there, the storm is expected to make landfall in Louisiana and rapidly race across land between Thursday, October 29th and Friday, October 30th. Zeta is expected to effect Long Island as a post-tropical system which could bring heavy rains, windy conditions, beach erosion and yes, even snow. We’ll continue to watch the storms development and send updates as needed.
Earlier today, the City of Long Beach Fire Department and City of Long Beach New York Police Department participated in a joint training with the U.S. Coast Guard. Members of each department learned search and rescue techniques for boating accidents, missing swimmers and other marine emergencies. At 1:43pm, the City of Long Beach Fire Department was alerted for a house fire on the 400 block of West Olive Street. First arriving units had smoke showing from the 2nd floor of the home and quickly made entry. The fire which was believed to have started under the stairs on the first floor traveled and spread to the second floor creating a heavy smoke condition inside the home. Firefighters quickly located the seed of the fire and extinguished the flames while others overhau...led the walls and knocked down additional pockets of fire. Three cats were rescued from inside the home, one of which required medical attention by our paramedics for smoke inhalation. There were no reported injuries and the Office of the Fire Marshal - County of Nassau is currently on scene investigating the cause.
