"No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory," -... President Franklin D. Roosevelt, delivered Dec. 8, 1941. On the date Roosevelt said, "which will live in infamy," nearly 2,400 #Americans lost their lives, Dec. 7, 1941, when Japanese bombers attacked Pearl Harbor. #NeverForget | #PearlHarbor2020
Help us congratulate Staff Sergeant Pytlak on her promotion to Sergeant First Class! We’d like to thank Dexter for helping with our Promotion Ceremony as well!
Here’s a snippet of our brass band playing Shenandoah. Through the trials of this year, we adapt and overcome with music.
In November 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day with the following words: "To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the n...ations" The word "Armistice" was eventually changed to "Veteran's", to pay tribute to all those who have served and continue to serve. This Veteran's Day, it is our great privilege to honor all those who have served in our Armed Forces through this medley of service songs. Proudly performed by the 198th Army Band's "Brass Six". #VeteransDay #VeteransDay2020 #USArmyBands #ArmyMusic #USArmy #USCoastGuard #USNavy #USMarineCorps #USAirforce
Congratulations to all of our NCOs who were awarded the Army Achievement Medal and Army Commendation Medals this morning! Your hard work and dedication to the band makes us stronger as a whole!
The 198th is back together this chilly weekend after a beautiful warm day! SSG Dugan led Drill Band this morning, followed by many rehearsals in the afternoon, including Concert Band and our MPTs!
Join us in congratulating SGT Herrmann on his promotion to Staff Sergeant! His promotion is well-deserved and we couldn’t be prouder!
Keeping the momentum going with a productive drill weekend! SSG Dugan conducted a Sound-off and Pass In Review this morning, and the band rehearsed MPT’s, along with online trainings and individual PT. We hope you are having a safe month!
SFC Smith made the trek to give our brand new Warrant Officer Patrick Dunham his first salute. Congratulations on an outstanding job and we look forward to seeing you in September! Also posted is the silver dollar, an Army tradition for new officers to give a silver dollar to the first enlisted person to salute them, and WO1 Dunham’s coin. (This silver dollar holds special meaning as it belonged to WO1 Dunham’s grandfather Technical Sergeant Milton Palmer, who was a tail gunner in WWII. He was shot down on Christmas Day over Germany in 1944 after flying more than 20 bombing missions and held in a Nazi prisoner camp until the end of the war.)
Please help us in congratulating our newest Warrant Officer, WO1 Dunham! He graduated from Warrant Officer Candidate School yesterday, and we couldn’t be prouder!
We wrapped up our final day of AT with weapons maintenance, an AAR, cleaning, and a Drum Major lesson from Chief Stephens. This year’s AT was productive, fast-paced, and an excellent unit bonding experience! Thank you for following along with us for the last two weeks.
The Happiest Half Hour! Presented by 198th Army Band
Over the last two days, the band has taken a diagnostic ACFT (run by SSG Aulet and SFC Meyer, respectively), and partaken in horseback riding at Wolcott Farms. Special thanks to everyone at Wolcott Farms for your guidance, and allowing us to ride the trail with you!
The Happiest Half Hour! Presented by 198th Army Band.
If you’ve been keeping up with Chief Stephens’s Happiest Half Hour live-streams, here are photos of what goes on behind the scenes! Tune in tomorrow for some MPT performances! Thank you to everyone who has watched - we appreciate your support!
Happy Monday! SSG Aulet and SSG Dugan led the full band this morning for Drill Band, and we worked on multiple events of the ACFT. The afternoon was spent rehearsing in both Concert Band and MPT. A great start to week 2 of AT!
