2communiqué 10.04.2021

A little over a year ago, we took the plunge and purchased and remodeled a historic building in Albany's Hudson/Park Neighborhood. Today, we celebrate our one year anniversary of our new studio space, remotely. This day also marks the 22nd anniversary of the founding of 2communiqué. To celebrate we're telling our #story. Over the next 22 days we will be sharing insights, memories, and moments of how we got to where we are. Starting today: #1/22: What do you really need to do ...the work that you love? The fourth quarter of 2008 was unprecedented. Projects were cut or scaled back left and right. By the summer of 2009 the studio was housed in my renovated garage and I was feeling a bit like a failure. How did I go from having cool office spaces in Cambridge, Denver, and Sarasota to end up in my garage?! Then I read an article with Michael Beirut (I wish I could find it today) and he asked the question (I’m paraphrasing if someone does find the article): what do you really need to do the work that you love? That was a wake-up call for me to look at what I had instead of what I had lost.Kelly Silver lining: The remodel of the garage was really cool and was the selling point when we put the house on the market the next year to make our move to New York. #design #22years #thanks #michaelbeirut #thankful #studio #studiolove #studiolife #storytelling #dowhatyoulove #brand #branding #reflect #celebrate #remote #thoughtleadership #foodforthought #takerisks #plunge #redesign @ Albany, New York

Boston artist Ekua Holmes created these thoughtful pieces for the Winsor school story about diversity and inclusion. The first one reflects on the individual (where all change begins,) facing one another (often in difficult conversations,) and the community (coming together and moving in the same direction while holding our unique cultures and ideals.) #2communiquedesign, #newwork, #design, #editorialdesign, #alumnimagazine, #researchmagazine, #alumnicommunications, #publicationdesign, #communicationdesign, #independent school, #covers, #published

Editorial portraiture is an important component of narrative storytellingespecially for an alumni publication. Working with a tight budget for Brown University’s research magazine, Impact, we maximized resources by arranging multiple shoots over two days. We then called on photographer Alex Gagne, knowing that he would make each story and subject feel unique. #2communiquedesign, #newwork, #design, #editorialdesign, #alumnimagazine, #researchmagazine, #alumnicommunications, #publicationdesign, #communicationdesign, #higherded #covers, #editorialphotography, #published
