Life Magazine Archives. Taken: Mon Feb 12, 1951. Photographer: Michael Rougier Joseph Pilates age 70 in his studio 939 Eighth Avenue NYC. (The photographer prob...ably made him put a shirt on.) His wife Clara in her traditional nurse's uniform. The client is Opera singer Roberta Peters. We haven't identified the other young woman. (Mary Bowen says that it's not Hannah Sakmirda). This was at least a decade before polyester workout clothing, and there wasn't a fitness industry to supply clothes, shoes, or equipment. We found these pictures when were looking for some posters for the studio. We did a google search of the Life Magazine archive. We picked a couple we liked and Qoop sent us some nice high quality framed prints. Over the last few years we've shown the photos to curious practitioners. We think they're really cool because we still do/teach the same exercises every day. Our instructors always enjoy learning the "archival exercises" from Romana and teaching them in the studio. ---- Esto es lo que pensamos que sabemos: Joseph Pilates 70 años de edad en su estudio de 939 Octava Avenida de Nueva York. (El fotógrafo probablemente le hizo poner una camisa.) Su esposa Clara en su uniforme de enfermera tradicional. El cliente es cantante de ópera Roberta Peters. Esto era por lo menos una década antes de la ropa de entrenamiento de poliéster, y no había una industria de la aptitud para suministrar ropa, calzado o equipo. Hemos encontrado estas imágenes cuando fueron en busca de algunos carteles para el estudio. Hicimos una búsqueda en Google del archivo de la revista Life. Elegimos un par que nos gustaba y nos ha enviado QOOP algunas impresiones agradables de alta calidad enmarcadas. En los últimos años hemos mostrado las fotos a los profesionales de curiosos. Creemos que son muy cool porque todavía lo hacen los mismos ejercicios todos los días. Nuestros instructores siempre disfruto el aprendizaje de los ejercicios de "archivo" de la Romana y la enseñanza en el estudio.
