59th Street Lutheran Brethren Church 06.11.2020

Good morning, 59th Street Church! This morning, we are grateful to be able to welcome many of you to our in-person worship service at our building. For those who will not be joining us in-person, we will be broadcasting our service LIVE on Zoom at 11:15 AM, just like we have the past three weeks. If you would like to join us for our Zoom call, please send us a direct message and we'll send you the link (which is the same link we've used previous weeks). We will also post vide...o recordings of this morning's service and sermon later this week on our YouTube Channel for those who are not able to join us on Zoom at 11:15. For those who will be attending our service at our building, we'll look forward to seeing you in person! And for everyone else, we hope you'll join us on Zoom at 11:15 AM to worship with us LIVE in your homes! Grace and peace, Pastor Andy

Hello 59th Street Church, I wanted to mention a couple of reminders about this coming Sunday's worship service (on 11/1) at 11:15 AM. 1) Please remember that this Sunday is the end of Daylight Savings Time, so turn your clocks one hour back, which means you get an extra hour of sleep!... 2) This Sunday, we will have Communion at the end of our service. When you enter the sanctuary, we will have individual Communion packets (with a wafer and cup of grape juice together) set out on a table. Please take one with you to your seat if you are planning to partake of Communion during the service. 3) Once again, we don't have any maximum capacity for this Sunday's service, so anyone who would like to attend in-person, you are welcome! Please try to arrive after 10:45, especially if you are planning to park in the church parking lot, to allow members of the Chinese Department to leave the parking lot after their service. And please remember to enter in the side basement door to go through screening before you enter the sanctuary. We will again have a live broadcast of our service on Zoom (same link as previous weeks, which will also be sent out on Sunday morning), so if you're not able to join us in-person, we'd love to have you join us on Zoom. See you Sunday, Pastor Andy

The fifth message in our "Rhythms of Rest" sermon series, looking at the rhythm of reading and meditating on Scripture, from Psalm 1:1-6. (Note: sermon ends at the 38:45 mark in the video) https://youtu.be/2UXlRGmB88w

The fourth message in our "Rhythms of Rest" sermon series, looking at the rhythm of prayer from Matthew 6:5-8, where Jesus speaks about true prayer that brings rest, in contrast to false prayer and living that brings exhaustion.

Dear 59th Street Church, I have good news to share with you this afternoon! Governor Cuomo announced this afternoon that the "orange zone" that our church had been in (which limited us to 25 people in a worship service) has been changed to a "yellow zone," where there is no longer a maximum limit for worship services. So, for this coming Sunday, 10/25, whoever would like to attend our in-person worship service is welcome! We will still have in place all of the procedures that... we've had the past two weeks (screening, masks, distancing in the sanctuary, etc.). And we will continue to broadcast our service live on Zoom, for those who are not able or who would prefer not to attend in person. It would still be helpful to know how many people are planning to attend this Sunday, to ensure that we have the correct groupings marked out in the pews. So, if you are planning to come this Sunday, please let us know. But even if you don't, you are welcome to attend, and we are grateful that we won't have to limit the number of people this week. Blessings, Pastor Andy

How does the Sabbath help free us from things in our world that might enslave us?

It was so good to be able to gather in-person for worship yesterday, and to have many join us on our Live Zoom broadcast as well. Here's a recording of yesterday's service for those who weren't able to be there in person or on Zoom (or if you want to watch it again!) https://youtu.be/Gr4JjI6to5E
