Community composting tutorial with Ursula Rozum at 610 Gifford St Community Garden - bring your compostables to us if you need a place to return them to the Earth!
Doing our duty clearing the sidewalks at the garden. The exciting part of the day though was Susan (with thanks to Holly helping out) bringing the finished seed library inventory all nice and snug in these brand new (to us) #steelmaster card drawers from her days of research before computers were so commonly used!

Thanks to Susan, Rumplestiltskin, Frank, and Ursula who prepped this propogation bed for our cuttings of gooseberry, currants, elderberry, raspberry, and highbush cranberry. These will be for sale at our spring plant sale, visit our website to buy a gift card now.
Free asparagus crowns for planting, pick them up at the corner of the garden any time.
Wonderful morning with friends and neighbors for planting the asparagus crowns we were able to dig up from Brady farm earlier in the week, we also divided some of the rhubarb and spaced out some additional plants in that perennial bed.

Did you know that 610 Gifford could also be considered a food forest garden? "a food forest is an ecological approach to growing built around perennial food-producing plants including trees, shrubs, berries and herbs." RAISED BEDS FOR MUTUAL AID: We received the delivery of the 14 bed kits; and 5 yards of compost/top soil mix. One bed was installed (without soil as my truck is in the garage) over the weekend. Now we are going to start scheduling for the upcoming installs. If you would like to participate as a volunteer installer, please complete the Doodle poll at https://doodle.com/poll/9xsxcm42tqv4u4av 20200906_123613.jpg 610 GIFFORD ST: Now that we are past the hot part of summer..., and past Labor Day, we've decided to go back to our "normal time" of 11 AM starts on Saturdays for our Growing Together gatherings. Please join us when you can. 713 MARCELLUS ST DEPOT: I'll be coordinating a work session this Saturday Sept 12th from 5-7 pm. Please let me know if you can attend to help with old vinyl floor removal, applying a wall skim coat of spackle, porch repair, or painting. Or indicate Going at the FB event page - https://www.facebook.com/events/315989602796325 So, how does your garden grow?
Thanks Susan for providing some perennials for our raised bed at front of the lot, can't wait to see them bloom next year!
Colors of community gardening.
This summer, our community compost bin has helped multiple food give-away providers with managing leftovers and past date items. Here is President Frank Cetera making a pick-up from Scott at The Shoppe at Strathmore. Our community compost bins at 610 Gifford St Community Garden are open for you, too. Anyone can bring food waste to compost, just make sure to cover well with the dried leaves we provide after you dump; and please no meat at this time.
A little pruning back and some fencing work at the front of the lot.
Another Saturday morning, community growing food and friendships with Ursula, Kathy, Susan, and Crispin.
