Do you pay attention to your thread? Thread comes wound two different ways cross wound like what's shown on the left or it comes stacked like on the right. Cross wound thread has a zigzag or X appearance on the spool. It is made to come off the top of the spool and the spool should not spin. Stacked thread is made to come off the side of the spool and should spin. If you have trouble with your tension and sewing machine consider a new thread path that accommodates what type of spool your using. I use a cone thread stand on the table as opposed to using my machines vertical or horizontal thread holder.
