Currently accepting new students. Does your child need help with reading, writing or math?
Are you looking for a tutor who can make learning fun and help keep your child from falling victim to the "summer slide"? I'm a teacher with 17 years of experience in general and special education. I can help with reading, writing, math, and organizational/study skills. I have Wilson reading certification, and have been trained in Windward's reading and writing program. Well versed in common core math and have experience teaching both Singapore math, and Engage NY. Flexible scheduling, and local references available. Send PM if interested or email me at [email protected].
How is your child keeping his / her skills sharp this summer? Reading? Keeping a journal? Practicing math facts?
Did you know that children who don't read over the summer can lose up to 3 months of skills? Without practice, math skills can also deteriorate. Ask me how I can help combat the dreaded "Summer Slide" http://mediaroom.scholastic.com//10CriticalFactsaboutSumme

What's your stance on the opt-out movement? Some say it is an effective means of peaceful protest, others say it teaches kids to shirk responsibilities. Did you refuse the test? http://www.lohud.com///04/05/common-core-opt-out/82621670/
Singapore Math's philosophy is to learn fewer topics, but to learn them to mastery. It encourages deep understanding of math concepts over rote memorization. Many area schools have bought into Singapore-based curriculum, and many parents are confused by this different way of learning.
