For dinner today, I went to check out Aqui Es Santa Fe for their new selection of vegan options. I was pretty excited as I never had Columbian food before! Ther...e are two major items: Arepas and Empanadas. Arepas are basically a type of appetizer that is flour tortilla cut and grilled nice and crispy and can be topped with any food item. The Ester, which is an area topped with kidney beans, avocado , diced tomatoes , cilantro, and scallions. It has a great amount of flavor and they give you a generous amount of beans. I ate this one on my own, and had to take just the beans home It’s definitely more of a shareable item. Columbian empanadas are different, moreso to how they are fried, as well as their size, and the size is absolutely adorable! They are the cutest things I’ve seen in food and different flavors have different colors. Aqui Es Santa Fe’s other business is making Columbian rainbow empanadas nadas.nyc As for the vegan options, there’s the Fiesta which is black bean (orange, and always available) as well as portobello mushroom (black) and sweet potato and corn (yellow) which can be asked upon request, but they may or may not have, so always good to ask! I was able to sample those today. The empanadas themselves are very crunchy and the inside is perfectly seasoned, and that goes for all three of them. The sweet potato one can be more of a dessert one as it is more sweet than savory. The mushroom one is my favorite as I love mushrooms and it also had peppers inside. I’m glad I was able to check this place out, to show that some unique vegan options are around in Port Chester bustling Latinx community! Oh and my brother ordered a fish dish, but got guac on the side to try. He said it’s the best guac he’s ever had. I also had some of his. It was very smooth and you can clearly taste the avocado and all the spices
